I just got some Dimarzio Area '58 & '67 pickups for my the neck and middle positions on my strat and a '61 for the bridge. Has anyone ever had these installed? Since the they are stacked humbuckers I not sure what type of tone pots to get. 250k or 500k. Any input is appreciated.

I use them and swear by them. I have the 67 in the neck, the 58 in the middle and the 61 in the bridge. I use the stock 250K pots for master volume and tone and a megohm (1,000K) pot as a blender so I can have any and all pickup combinations. Note that the Area series were designed to work with the original 250K pots and .05 microfarad capacitor. I also use the original capacitor.

You're certainly welcome. I truly believe that they are the most versatile, yet traditional sounding Strat humbucker combo on the planet.

I have 58s in the neck and middle of my Fat Strat. I really like the clips I've seen/heard of the 67s. How do they compare to the 58s?

Originally, I had a 58 in the neck as well. I must state that I was extremely happy with the 58 until I heard the 67. This is NOT to say that the 67 is better, just different.

You know what the 58 sounds like so, I'll try to explain the difference with the 67.

The 67 has significantly less mids which translate to crisper highs and lows. It's not as 'sweet' sounding as the 58. Rather, it has more of a crisp, penetrating quality. In other words, the 67 has an overall, slinkier sound and again, because of the scooped midrange, presents itself quite clean and clear. If you're looking for something in a Gilmour vein, IMHO, the 67 is absolutely, positively it.

Thanks. I'm using a Peavey Classic 30 which is described as having prominent mids, so the 67s could work well with it.

You're quite welcome.

I'm reasonably familiar with that amp. Yes, the 67 would have quite a different dimension in lieu of the 58. All I can say is, give it a shot and I'll bet you'll be delighted.

Good luck!
