Picked up a Fender American Series Tele(my third fender) and went to guitar center and purchased a pickguard. I was starting to begin the change out when I removed the protective film off of the new pickguard and noticed a glue residue from the film still on the guard. I tried to remove with guitar/polish/cleaner with no success. I was able to use thumb pressure and friction and slowly but that method will take HOURS. I'm going to GC to try to get replacement. We'll see. I was wondering if this is a typical of "Official" Fender replacement guards? With my Gibsons I have never had a problem with their guards. Just complaining, but I would suggest removing the film at the store. :(

Try using some lighter fluid (naptha (sp)).

A lot of the "official" Fender replacement parts are only authorized and not made by Fender, so they're not always the highest quality. Also try rubbing alcohol on the residue.

rubbing alcohol is a good one.

also, check your local autoparts store for adhesive remover. make sure you grab one safe for plastic. they're pretty much all safe on paint though. revive label/sticker remover is a good one.
