I recently purchased a Fender Limited Edition Troublemaker Telecaster. It came loaded with a Shawbucker 1T in the neck postion and a Shawbucker 2T in the bridge wired in HH configuration. Both pickups have the bottom three and top three pole adjustments offset in this guitar but when I look at the pickups on the Fender webstore, both pickups have the pole adjustments in line across all strings. What is the difference ? The webstore pickups lack covers, these have chrome covers.

I love the sound and feel of this guitar. I can't wait to hear it in the hands of a real guitar player.

This.
They are Shawbuckers, but they were built to look like the original wide-range humbuckers used in the late 60s and 70s.

My guess is they were saving money, using what covers they had on-hand and modified the lug & screw placement w/o changing the pickups tone to significantly.

I have no solid knowledge of this, nor any explanations, so just bear with me.

But the Troublemaker service diagram (on the product page; https://shop.fender.com/en-US/electric- ... 20783.html ) says "PICKUP ASSY AM PRO TELE DLX AGED WHT BRIDGE"; part number 7710448000, and "PICKUP ASSY AM PRO TELE DLX BLK NECK", part number 7710449000. Here's the diagram link: https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Orig ... caster.pdf
The pickups in the diagram are Wide Range Reissues, and that's what the Troublemaker pups look like from above.
That contradicts what the highlights & specs on that product page says.

Now, one doesn't need to take the metal covers off to know what the pickups really are. From the backside, WRH-RI's are easy to separate from Shawbuckers.

The Player Tele HH and Chris Shiflett Tele use 6-in-line screws under chrome covers, so it's not a stock availability or patent issue. The rest of the Humbucker Tele's as well as the Starcaster use the offset screws. It's a bit of a Fender signature thing, even though the original Wide-Range are no longer produced (maybe Custom shop?)

Perhaps the original design was to use the AmPro pickups without covers, and it was later decided to add the Fender covers to add to the "parallel universe" mystique of the model? The graphic got updated, but not the parts list?

First off.... I love the feedback and knowledge here. Ya'll know your sh... . I can learn alot.

Anyway, so what I'm gathering from the back pics is that the pickups in my guitar are actually a '72 style reissued wide range pickups, not Shawbuckers as Fender is listing in it's features & specs?

Since you actually have one in your possession, you could easily pull one of your pups loose and look at the back. I wouldn't think Fender would ship you '72 RI style pups, even though the offset cover may be that. Look at the back of one.....

Based on that, editing my previous:
The American Professional Telecaster Deluxe pickups (= the same pups as on the Troublemaker) have the WRH(-RI) style covers, but according to that model's product page, they in fact also are Shawbuckers. And I should have checked the AmPro service diagram before posting: it shows the pickup (backs/wires) are Shawbucker type.

Sorry for the hassle I stirred up... :|

Shawbuckers they are !! Is there any advantage to the offset pole screw adjustments vs in line ?
