Need to replace a neck pickup in a 76 Strat.

Original is long gone, currently has a Lace Sensor in it.

I was thinking a Seymour Duncan APS II flat pole piece pickup.

Is there something else that would match better with the original middle and bridge pickups on a 76 Stratocaster?

Personally, I would get a complete set. Current Fender production uses RWRP for the center pickup to get a noise canceling effect in the 2 and 4 "slot" positions.
Using a Duncan in the neck and the stock pickups in the bridge would not sound right on the "slot" position because the Duncan is reverse-polarity from Fender.

Honestly, those '70s pickups were nothing special. If you like the sound of the APS-II, then just get a complete set and you'll be matched.
For a nice medium-output set, the SSL-6 Custom Flat Strat is a nice pickup.
The APS-2 is a nice pickup, but not quite as hot.

Personally, I really like the Gold Lace Sensors. My buddy had a set in his Ultra and he replaced them with the Red/Blue/Silver set and gave me his Gold set. I loved the tone from those. Sold that guitar to my boss.

I’m not a fan of noiseless pickups. I’ve had Lace, Dimarzio, Fender SCN, Fender Vintage Noiseless, and Zex Coils. There is something off about them.

I’ve thought about pulling the pickguard assembly and storing it so I can just drop in a whole new loaded PG.

Wonder what should I use?

Problem I’ve noticed is Fender does not make flat pole piece pickups other than a Tele bridge.

Perhaps being a 7.25 radius, I should get staggered pole pickups. I do like the Tex-Mex and Fat 50’s though...

I like the Texas Specials, but they are a love-hate depending on who you talk to. They are pretty hot compared to what we're used to from Fender, and a bit stronger in the mids. They break up easily. Some have gotten past the "hate" part by dropping the height a bit, so they can be tuned.

Honestly, I'd go for a full set of APS... I think you'd be happy with that.
