The FMT strat for example has no pickguard:

Ever heard of using 'Clear Vinyl Clings' on an instrument with no pickgaurd?
Does this look like a good idea?

I have concerns that if a vinyl cling is left on too long
It might cause damage to the finish?
(I have heard they can cause damage on older finishes - maybe nitro?)
Anyone experienced with these things? What are the good ones to use?
Should u do it & if so, which are the best to use for the FMT?

Personally I would not do that to any guitar.

(i just responded in another post to u about v-picks I bought)
So the potential pick scratches are a better idea maybe?
I am not going to baby this guitar...
I know its pretty but I am going to play it!
I am certain I will get some strum sctratches eventually...
I would rather have that than a big SCrEW up on the finish ya kno...

Just let things happen naturally. I buy my guitars to play not frame.

I would thing that after some time the color around the vinyl would mature and the color under the vinyl would not. An aestetics thing to be sure but a consideration to be made.
