For 2017, Fender has decided to rebrand the range entirely, and the new American Professional Series features a series of upgrades across the board, including new V-Mod pickups designed by in-house pickup guru Tim Shaw, treble-bleed circuits, a new ‘Modern Deep-C’ neck profile and impressive Elite moulded hardshell cases with TSA (Transportation Security Administration) approved latches.

I'm looking for opinions on the pickups.

I still like the Fat 50s best. I'm tending toward lower output pickups for the dynamics, so it's not you, it's me.

Compared to others I own or have owned: Samarium Cobalts, Texas Specials, N3 Noiseless, DiMarzio Virtual Vintage, Duncan Classic Stacks and Hot Rails. I like the Fat 50's scooped tone.

The Shaws are a bit higher output, not full-bore Hot Rails, but they seem as hot as Texas Specials, and brighter to boot. Not bad, but different. A bit more midrange "honk" than the DiMarzio Vintage Heavy Blues and Pro 54. But still decent "quack".

I've got to try the lower output Virtual Vintages. The ones I have (DiMarzio Vintage Heavy Blues and Pro 54) are great.

I ride the volume knob quite a bit, so maybe it's the stock treble bleed that made things too bright. Not sure I'm in the treble bleed camp yet.
