Hi everyone, as I’m sure by the subject it should suggest I’m a little frustrated with a matter dealing with installation of a new pickup. I own a 2014 Fender Deluxe Lonestar Strat Limited Edition HSS. Recently I’ve decided to swap out the factory bridge humbucker for a DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary humbucker pickup but,,,, I’ve ran into some slight issues. My big problem is my Strat has a S1 Volume pot and this is where my troubles are. I’d like to keep the S1 switch if possible but I cannot for the life of me seem to the wiring right. If it wasn’t for this Fender quick connect wire harness with three wires I’d be just fine but I’m not.

My factory Fender humbucker is a Fender Twin Head Modern Humbucker. Wires are connected to the pickup via a clip for quick disconnecting/connecting. The pickup wires from the pickup are black, green and blue.

My new pickup is a DiMarzio humbucker and has 5 wires. The wires are black, white, green, red and a bare stranded wire.

S1 switch only has or had two soldered spots. I cannot figure out how to wire the new DiMarzio pickup to the S1 switch.

Here is a link of exactly my same factory setup with the same pickups, s1 switch, wiring and everything.

Please please please help. I’m about to pull my hair out here lol. I’ve been on this for awhile and I cannot find any help. Thank you

In all honesty, I don't have any buckers in my Strat nor do I have the S1 switch. So w/o any other responses from someone that does I would consult this link:
http://www.dimarzio.com/support/wiring-diagrams#1-5-5-3
and if you still cant seem to get it to your liking try the e-mail route direct w/ your issue.

Hi there looks like the wiring is similar to this

http://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Origi ... 7-2016.PDF

If so all the S1 is doing is shorting the second coil of the twin head to give you a single coil sound.
So wire the red on the dimarzio to the switch where the blue wire was.
Wire the black and white together and carefully solder to the S1 where the green wire was.
Finally tie the green and the braid together and solder to the back of the pot where the black wire was.
If you are having phase issues swap the red and green around.
Hope this helps :D

Thanks for the reply guys

I ended up taking the S1 switch out and soldering in a new Fender 250k pot. I can still revert back to the S1 if I ever wish too. I hardly ever used the S1 switching anyways.
