Its HotRod time for my MIM HSS. We are converting back to SSS coil arrangement. I have had the Fat 50's pu's suggested to me, but I am digging the 69's as well. I have listened to samples of both, and like the 69's tone better (warmer IMO). Although there was not a thing wrong with the 50's either, just different.

Has anyone had any experience with one or both types of these pu's, any reccomendations? I want that 60's-70's sound, but want to play blues also.

Thanks

I have. The 50s are midrange heavy with softer basses and highs whereas the 69s are the exact opposite: Tight bass, little midrange and really piercing highs. The output between the two is roughly the same.

If I were you, I'd go with the 69s. You could always fatten the midrange via the amp or a pedal whereas it would be pretty tough to get the highs and lows of the 50s to sound like the 69s via an amp or a pedal.

You're welcome!

You'll find them crisp, clean and bright with outstanding string separation. I think you'll especially like the neck pickup for Blues stuff.

Enjoy!!

I have a CS 69 in the neck and middle position, and went with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge of my 2004 American Strat. For Blues I really like the CS 69 in the neck. Has a nice thumping bass and very fat overall tone. Sometimes I do miss having one in the bridge, but there must be tradeoffs.
