Hello,
I apologize if this isn't a Fender related subject, but I haven't been able to find any answers to this (even in Dimarzio's manual!)

So, I am wanting to swap out the bridge pickup on my Mexican Stratocaster with this SDS-1 Dimarzio Distortion pickup:

Now from my understanding, the white wire goes to the pickup selector (bridge) and the black wire goes to ground. But I haven't been able to figure out what this green wire is used for:

Now, all I want to know if it's necessary to use this green wire, and if so, where to put it, because I have no idea what purpose it serves. Thanks!

Nothting on Dimarzio.com. It is a old model ?

IMO bare wire go to the ground too. This is the shield for all wires.
Green wire ; I guess is no use, tape it, pickup is single coil and just nee 2 wiresé
Do you have a meter to read wires ohms ?

You can now mount the SDS-1 on your pickguard, and
solder the connections into the circuit. The white wire goes to the
switch connection, the black wire goes to ground. When all soldering
is completed, remount the pickguard on the guitar. We are sorry to
have to make things so complicated.
We think you will agree when
you hear the SDS-1, that the effort is worth it.

If I remember right, the early models looked like yours, but then they changed it and the Green wire was left off. But as mentioned, it's probably just a half coil tap that few would ever use. It was likely added because this is a VERY fat pickup, and only suitable for the bridge position. I bought a used Strat back in the mid '70s that had one of these in the middle position, and it was so over-the-top it was unusable with any sort of overdriven signal. Maybe using the half coil tap might work in the middle and neck positions?
