Hi Guys,

I have been looking at the Duff McKagan P Bass and was wondering if it is an active or passive bass. I have looked around but i can't seem to find out. Thanks

The Duff bass they are selling now is passive. I know they made an active version back in the late 80's that was basically the same bass, but with a route in the back for a 9v. That one was called the "Power Jazz Bass Special", this one is the "Jazz Bass Special". Either way, pretty cool basses. They were made in Japan, and had those cool "F" knobs. Can't find replacement knobs anywhere, but if anyone knows where I can, post it please. Here's my P-Bass Lyte... almost the same exact bass. This is the only knob that still has the "F" on it. Image

The Power Jazz Bass Special is different the the Jazz Bass Special. Body color, neck finish, they were different. Yes the main difference were the actives and the Power Jazz Bass Special didn't have the Duncan pup, and being active pups it didn't have the TBX control either.

I still have the Fender "top hat" knobs, it's on my Squier now since my PJB Special have to have bigger knobs since going to EMGs. You should take off the knob and clean it, the top "F" comes off, then you can take the rubber tread surround and brush it with mild soap, it'll come out looking brand new. I do it every 6 months or so.

What I love about the P Lyte is the bridge. Love those stout MIJ bridges.
