Hi,

I recently bought a used pickup on the internet.
The seller announced it as a 57/62 but when I checked it to the multimeter, I got a resistance of 6.5K. Is there any chance that it is still a 57/62. I know that for the 57/62 the reference value is 5.6K ...

Thank you for your help :)
Nicolas

A DCR of 6.5KΩ is a skosh high for a 57/62 pickup. Visually, the pickup seems to resemble a Texas Special with its beveled pole pieces and cloth push-back leads. And that DCR measurement is right in the TS's ballpark. Any chance that the seller was mistaken regarding the ID?

Hi Arjay,

I am waiting for a reply from the seller on this subject.
He bought these pickups from a friend who bought them secondhand.

In that case, the "chain of custody" is highly suspect.

Have you installed the pickup?

If so, how does it sound?

No, I have not installed the pickup yet (I have 3 to install). In fact I find it bizarre is to install in position neck a pickup that has a greater resistance than others ...

I'm perhaps one of the few who actually prefers a hot neck pickup. With the tone control rolled back and a bit of OD into the amp, it's great for replicating Clapton's "woman tones".

Hi there any markings on the back?
With that bright gold winding either 57/62 or possibly fat 50s.
Texas specials I have seen have dark maroon type windings . :D

The DCR is too high for a 57/62 coil. However, the Fat 50's are a possibility though it would have to be the bridge pickup from that set.

Hi,

no there is no mark on the back. The back is black, like the front.
Hum, I should just get over it and admit that I was sold another model of pickup...

Anyway thanks for your help :D

I still think you should install the pickup in a guitar and give it a chance.

Hi,

maybe it's me (if it's on zikinf or fr.audiofanzine).
As I said on these forum, I tried to mount my pickups and the sound is pretty good but I have something strange in the positions mid+neck and neck. The sound is lower (tone) and smoother in the intermediate position than in neck position. Is it because of the higher resistance of the pickup or maybe a bad wiring... ?

Possibly the output level or the pole stagger or the height adjustment of the new pickup; or even all three.

What other pickups/set do you have in the middle and bridge?

Yep excellent question.
Are you sure they are not out of phase when in the neck + mid position.
Not all pickups have the same phase/polarity even from the same manufacturer. :D

Hi,

I tried to change the height of the pickup. It's more equilibrate but the "problem" is still here.

My pickups :
Bridge : Fat 50
Middle : CS69
Neck : hu.... I don't know. I thought it was a 57/62 but maybe it's a Texas Special or a 54... or something else lol

@Jimmy_james :

I don't know for the phase or the polarity.
Someone told me that in this case the sound in intermediate position is "narrow" (I don't know how to tell this in english lol)... a sound without depth. The sound, in my case is not like that. It is more like if you turn down the tone slightly.
