Hey
I bought the Custom shop 54 pickups, i kind of got a question:
How do you know which pickup is which?
i mean i get 3 identical pickups, but how can i know which one is for the bridge, which for the neck etc?

i just connected them in the same order i got them.. guessing thats the right one?

and another thing, it looks like the bridge pickup has less gain comparing to the other, like you take the volume knob and turn it down a bit.. can the pickup be mal-constructed? but i does make sound.. so.. any suggestions?

thanks
Aviel

The bridge pickup should have a red dot on it's underside, usually over one of the poles. The middle and neck pickups are identical so they will look the same.

The bridge pickup is calibrated for increased, balanced output. OEM on the Custom Shop Dick Dale and American Classic Stratocasters.

I agree with SMark and note also that the middle pickup is not RWRP.

hey
well i looked carefully at all of them, from the inside, on every side, no red dot.
i just mesured the resistance and put the one with highest resistance as bridge.

though i find those pickups has a really low output, is it true? the guitar iss less loud and fat, more glassy

I never knew of this set having the red dot for a calibrated, louder bridge pickup. Rather, I thought they were all of the same resistance (+/- 10%). You did what I would have done by measuring the resistance, etc. Yes, they are a lower output set by comparison. Your sonic observations accurately verify what this set is supposed to do.

The bridge pup should have a red dot, but I have seen Fender omit them for some reason. Typically, the bridge pickup will measure around 6.2k to 6.5k, and the neck and middle pickups will be around 5.7k to 6.0k.

On sets like the Texas Special and Fat 50s, you will see a red dot on the bridge pup and a blue dot on the neck pup. Typically the dots are only left off when the pickups were installed into a particular model Strat at the factory.

If you look closely at the set of pups in this pic, you will see the red dot covering the bottom of the B-string pole on the bridge pickup and the blue dot covering the bottom of the b-string pole on the neck pickup...
