Long story, short, I installed a set of Pure Vintage pups in my Squier VM Jaguar in what are technically the wrong positions (I did get the claws right, though). They both metered identical so I'm thinking it's not a problem but perhaps there are other things I'm not taking into consideration like direction of the winding in relation to each other, etc.

If you're interested in why this happened, and there is a reasonable explanation, your can read about it here:

There is also some info about the stock pups being installed incorrectly on mine. Don't know if it's a universal issue but it was worth more than a mention, it's actually the reason behind my mistake.

Any insight is appreciated, especially from tech support folks.

The magnet polarity and wind direction of the coil wire are the two variables we want to look at here. These two variables interact to affect phasing and hum-cancelling operations when pickups are combined. The interesting thing is that these two factors do not change when the pickup’s orientation changes. In other words, the pickup can be rotated in the guitar and the polarity and wind direction will stay the same.

So, in short, you're saying I don't need to reinstall the Pure Vintage pups?

I'm still curious as to why Squier would install the hotter Duncan Designed stock pup in the neck position and whether it was just my guitar or model-wide.

Thanks for the reply,
