Hello people! I'll try to keep it short...

I have an old Korean Squier Strat 89/90 model which I love but would like to put some good Fender pickups in. My question is which ones do I go for as there are sooo many??!!

My influences are U2/Edge and a good blues sound a la SRV etc.

Can anyone recommend any pickups which are good all-rounders? I'm in the UK.

Cheers!

Karl.

My research is pointing me towards Fat 50's or Texas Specials, but I'm just not sure about the 57/62, '56, '59, '54, '65, '69!?!?!

Before proceeding, I suggest that you measure the depth of your guitar's pickup routs. Some Squiers are pretty shallow in comparison with a US- or Mexican-made Strat.

As for a choice, each of Fender's pickup sets produce some great albeit distinct tones. My personal choice is the Fat 50's for their fat, rich mids and smooth spank.

Thanks for the reply!

I shall measure this before getting any for sure. Is there a standard depth that these pickups need?

Are the dimensions of the pickups available anywhere?

Fingerboard appears to be a 10" radius....so should I discount staggered pole pieces?

I think you need 9/16" for standard single-coil pickups -- 3/4" for double-stack humbuckers as offered from DiMarzio and Seymor-Duncan.
