Looking for a backup acoustic/electric. Was going to get one a couple of years ago, but opted to take my Martin on the plane trip/cruise. While it worked out OK, it was too much on my nerves. Need to take a less expensive acoustic this time around.

Here's what I'm looking for, in case you have something different than what's listed above to suggest:

REQUIRED QUALITIES
1. Fender on the headstock :D
2. Dreadnought
3. Steel string
4. 6 string
5. Durable construction, handles temperature/pressure changes well
6. Acoustic/Electric

DESIRED QUALITIES
1. Single cutaway
2. Comes in black

EXCLUDED RIGHT OFF THE BAT
1. Telecoustic/Stratacoustic
2. Sonoran (not crazy about that headstock on an acoustic)

After doing some research, it seems maple is stronger than mahogany as far as taking a shock from a fall/etc.? So most generally durable of the 4 mentioned above would be the T-BUCKET 400CE which is almost all maple?

If it's definitely a " Fender " Acoustic /Electric that you want, then I would go with the CD60CE. I own one which is in the Mahogany finish and it is my favorite out of my 3 acoustics.

Came across this thread on "Search" for T-Bucket 300CE because I am thinking about asking Santa for one this year, and I wanted to see what people were saying about them.

The 300CE got my vote by the way...because I kept tossing the 400CE and 300CE back and forth, and the 300CE won in the end, in my head.
I say "in my head", because I have yet to pick up either one and give a strum and a listen. So right now it boils down to eye candy.

I DO like the flame maple and gold hardware of the 400CE, but the binding and inlay does not "pop", because the accents are weak with the white on the light maple. Even the gold hardware has a hard time standing out. And if you "desire" black...it is not offered (Natural only---as it should be I think, considering the beauty).

The 300CE, regardless what color you choose (I personally love the Amber), the binding and inlay accent the guitar SO amazingly. And the Quilt Maple top is way cool too. (The Black is Flame Maple...and some reviews say the wood grain / flame maple disappears once you get a little ways away from the guitar and just looks black).

Just based on "product page" reviews on all the different sites; and "eye appeal"...the 300CE wins for me.

I have checked out the other two options, and nothing about them really do anything for me.
I have a CD-60 acoustic and I like it a lot...but not necessarily enough to get another one (only cut away) with electronics in it. And the 140-SCE, well, the reviews I've read aren't that favorable.

it's a great guitar for what I've been using it for.

Plugged in, it sounds great to me. It doesn't get "thumpy" at all and sounds nicely balanced. It has a certain sound to it, different from a Martin or Taylor, but still good. I think it leans closer to a Gibson acoustic. Think "Rocky Racoon" by the Beatles (not sure if that was a Gibson).

Unplugged, it doesn't have a ton of volume which works out well for me. Others may not like that.

I had originally gone to check out the 400CE, but alas it was not in stock and I couldn't wait. But the 300 was cheaper, and like you said, the eye candy is all there.

Bottom line: it was a good choice for me.

Actually, the CD140SCE "All Mahogany" is a pretty amazing guitar, considering it's price point. It's well made, and while it still has a warmer sound than other tone woods, it also sounds surprisingly robust, and resonates for wildly long time. (for all mahogany). The neck is super comfortable, and is easy to play. I just bought my second one yesterday....one with a solid top. (first one didn't have a solid top, but sounded great nonetheless). It has a ton of volume "unplugged". I found that the "spruce/RW model lacked "heft", unlike the "all mahogany" model. Just my opinion though.

The tone of an 'all mahogany' acoustic guitar is certainly not for everyone, which is why you have to take reviews with a grain of salt. A well made all mahogany guitar sounds amazing. And although it is to each their own, I say...TRY the CD140SCE all mahogany one, and I assure you it will be a pleasant surprise. :D

Cheers!
