Just a quick, specific question, about the strap button in the lower bout.

I plan on fitting a pickup, with a standard 1/4" jack mounted in place of the lower bout strap button.

That means drilling a 12mm hole into the body at the location of the strap button.

So here's the question, in 3 parts:

1) How does the existing strap button fit into the body. Is it a screw fitting (with the button acting as a head of the screw); or is the traditional tapered dowel fitting?
2) Any suggestions on how to remove it.
3) Any cautions on drilling the body for the jack. eg should I drill and ream? (I do have workshop).

Over to you... and thanks in anticipation...

D.

That's a great start. Thanks. Reaming seems to be the solution in this feature... but has anyone tried scribing a circle into the lacquer (nitro cellulose ?) before drilling, to stop the spread of any potential chipping from the drill bit? Would that also work?

I'd probably also use masking tape to protect the vulnerable parts of the ends, and a drop of original "loctite" on the strap button to secure it to the jack shank.

Thanks again... really useful feature.

Use painter tape , many other tape may damage finish . Locktite , be carefull , use only the light one ; easy to remove .
