I'm hoping you guys might have some advice for me. I primarily play an American Deluxe Strat, but I bought a Fender CD60CE since I also wanted an acoustic to practice with from time to time. I also bought it with the purpose of travelling with it while on business trips.

I'm still learning to play (about 4 months under my belt) and being away for business for 2 weeks at a time just kills my progress and I lose my nice calluses. :( So, I want to take my CD60CE with me as checked baggage on my trips. It comes with a hardshell case, but compared to my Strat case, I'm not sure it would hold up that well. My acoustic is cheap by most guitar standards. So, if it gets damaged its not a huge loss, but I'd really like to prevent it.

So, the question I have is would the hardshell case hold up well enough for checked baggage? Assuming I prep it properly: stuff support around the neck/body, loosen the strings, etc... Or, should i just bite the bullet and buy a nice TSA case like the Fender SKB Molded Dreadnought just to be safe?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I think I can also have it checked at the gate like a baby stroller too and that would probably make the basic hardshell case ok.

Thanks - Khufu

First, the airline is liable for damages to your baggage. Second, you most likely have some sort of insurance when travelling. Third, the guitar is an 'easy-to-replace' model, not a unique vintage specimen. And fourth, the price of that case is near the price of the guitar, so what's the point?

Anyways, takes a helluva case to stay intact, if someone rolls over it with a five ton service vehicle.
