I have a squier and a starcaster that both need replacement nuts.

My brother has a FA-100

They are all the same damn guitar mass produced with the exact same dimensions

It's very strange I cannot find a replacement nut ANYWHERE!!!

its a little piece of plastic...

I'm not going to pay a Luthier to custom make a bone nut for $60 for a $100 guitar

Has anyone bought a tusq nut and can let me know which model is needed for a guitar like this?

Or does anyone know where/how i can order replacement nuts for these guitars?

Thanks

Hey redking,
GraphTech, the folks who make Tusq nuts and saddles, have a really good website that identifies all the pertinent dimensions and how to measure your guitar's nut or saddle. Each of their models is described with those key measurements in fractional inches, decimal inches and in millimeters.

http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?SubCategoryID=4

Plus, the Tusq material is awesome, I put a Tusq saddle on a guitar of mine and it made a set of quite old strings sound almost new again.

Good luck!

I've wondered about the same thing. Can you buy pre-cut nuts and expect them to fit? I'll follow this post and see who responds.

Paying someone to cut a blank (at $100) seems a bit much for a guitar that cost roughly $150. I've replaced my stock plastic bridge pins with ebony (from a Taylor) and I plan to buy a bone compensated bridge saddle, but I doubt I'll change the nut, unless...?

And OP, if you no longer have the original nut, maybe measure one from another guitar, same model? -Anyone else, would that work? Would that be exact enough?

Good luck with this.

My apologies redking, I didn't realize the nut was missing. It never occurred to me that it was missing as there are plenty of reasons that it could need replacing, such as worn or chipped string slots affecting tuning or sting height from the fretboard. Or wanting to upgrade a stock plastic nut to a bone or tusq one to improve the tone.

You can still make measurements of the length and width of the slot the nut came out of and order a pre-slotted nut based on those measurements. You won't find a replacement model specifically for that guitar unfortunately that's just not how nuts are made. Perhaps your best bet is to take the guitar in to a repair shop and tell the tech you want a replacement pre-slotted nut, they'll likely be able to help you for not too much cash.

Cheers, Hope that helps!
