Hi folks! I have a Fender Kingman SCE with five years now. I play it regularly, especially on summer. This week i saw on my local store this "Fingerboard Hydrate" solution from Planet Waves and i was wondering how good could it be for the rosewood scale when applied from times to times (like one time a year or less).
On the brand's website it says that it's good for hydrate and prevent cracks on the scale provoked by the lack of humidity, the natural aging of the wood etc... you know.

I would like to know if anybody has any experience with it, and if yes, if it recommends it. Any tips from Fender itself too? ;)

Thank you in advance.

P.S: Sorry for any mistake in the english.

I forgot to mention, i'm also interested in this product because supposedly it doesn't cause accumulation on the wood like lemon oil and others like that. At least, is what is mentioned on the website.

forget that, and forget the lemon oil too. go to your local drug store, and get a bottle of mineral oil, should be less than 2 bucks. lemon oil is just mineral oil with a scent. I've been using regular old mineral oil for over 25 years with excellent results. rub it on, let it sit about an hour, take a clean cloth and wipe off any excess......done.

Thank you Arnold. How often do you hydrate your fingerboard? Because i don't have any idea.

Maybe 1 or 2 times a year...Keep an eye on the fretboard. If it looks really dry give it a little. A little oil goes a long way. I have no set regiment, I just use my eye, and go by feel. If it looks and feels a bit dry, I will do it. You will have to be the judge yourself. how much you play, how you store it, and your climate will determine your answer for how you will need to keep up with it.

I dont know about mineral oil, but for five bucks you get a bottle of prs fretboard conditioner on e bay,and its the best. Planet waves has a dye in it. You can also use lemon oil. It should be done at least once a year on rosewood fretboards to prevent drying and cracking.

I do know about mineral oil, and buying anything else is throwing money away. I will reiterate...lemon oil is just lemon scented mineral oil. You could not cost effectively buy real "lemon oil' extracted from real citrus.

To Arnold Layne. Actually mineral oil will condition but not clean it,and lemon oil contains no lemons. A good site about this is pickroar.com a lot of info about what to use,but i will stick with the prs fretboard conditioner,as it's the best results i have ever had,and i have tried most.

What about lineseed oil? I've got a 24 year old Fender Montara (natural) that could use some. Of course, it also needs a good truss rod adjustment and fret redressing, so I might just let the luthier handle the fingerboard...
