I bought this Fender at a rural flea market yesterday, when I picked it up, I think my heart jumped a beat. It's a beautiful guitar. Haven't had any luck figuring out what is or how old. After hours on the internet with no luck, I found this forum. It is US made and all mahogany. Pick guard is missing and it has replacement Ping tuners. I have taken photos that can be viewed here.

Neck is as straight as an arrow and finish on body has great depth. Serial number appears to be 5660 1030. Stamp under sounding hole appears to be S-72-B with "Made in USA" and perhaps a "V". Previous owner's son thought it dated to the 1950's, but he wasn't sure. I looked at hundreds of photos online and didn't find one even remotely similar. Please help, is this a prototype? Age and potential value?

What you have is a Harmony guitar branded for Fender. Harmony was the same company that made guitars for Sears. I would be surprised if it is actually mahogany. Most likily its is birch. They did make a few mahogany guitars, but they also stained a lot of their guitars to look like different woods. Their mahogany guitars were their better guitars - typically.

You'll see your guitar in several of these photos on the Harmony website. (This is a fan website)
http://harmony.demont.net (Search for Fender)

Harmony's are low budget beginner guitars - typically. They did maker "higher" end guitars, but nothing to the level of Martin or Gibson.

The ink stamp in Photo #3 that you linked is a Harmony stamp. S = Second half of the year. 72 = the year.

The guitar would be have little value comparatively. Fender acoustic guitars are not highly regarded. Leo Fender was not a luthier - he was an engineer.

You'll notice the same Fender Logo in this article.

EDIT- ADDED INFO: Seems the other number you photographed was the model number. Possible an F1030. It did come in Mahogany. Vintage Guitar Price Guide has the Harmony-made series listed around $100. I think you'll find them selling for more, but probably because people are buying the name. Goggle Fender F1030 guitar.
