Hey guys! You're never going to believe this, but I got this beautiful Fender Montara.
The guitar was not in a bad shape and it had no strings. I took it to my luthier and he fixed it. The pickup that this guitar uses is an undersaddle pickup and it works perfectly after 21 years. It has everything stock tuners straight from Fender. The only two things that are not stock are the bridge pins, which got lost through the years and we replaced them with some ebony ones and the saddle which is genuine bone.

Anyhow, I've been searching on the internet about it and it seems it's a collector's item. Very rare, there are not many laying around, but I'd like to sell it. I'm not much of a vintage collector and I need the cash to buy better equipment, so maybe you guys can help me value this guitar.

I've seen it go as high as $1,200 and as low as $680. Here are some pics:

The serial number is: 91028271. I've looked everywhere, googled tons of results. I hope you guys can help me, thanks!

WHAT?.............$5.............I'll give you $20 right now for a 200% profit...! Or maybe more my math isn't so great :D Killer deal though, damn!

Anyway, I have one in Sunburst, thought I got a good deal at $250 including hard case off of Evil-bay. Wouldn't trade it for the world. They are very hard to find, but don't seem to bring tons of cash for whatever reason, average on Evil-bay for ones that come up is around $400, give or take some.

I had a heck of a time getting info on mine, Fender seemed to know nothing about it when I called to ask. I did finally find one guy that sent me an email with the following info on each model based on color, below is the text n the black ones, good luck with it. And don't forget my generous offer

Hahaha, most generous offer. Well, to tell you the truth, I do like the guitar, but I need to buy myself some equipment. But I wouldn't part from it for $250. Maybe the $400. But that's what I don't understand: if this guitar is so rare that there's no info lying around, why the hell are people buying it now at a much lower price than before when it was released 20 years ago? :?:

You're right about that, they are rare in that they're so hard to find but the pricing makes no sense. The first one I ever saw was at a GC store in Chicago and they wanted $600. I didn't have that kind of coin to spend so I walked away but I started the Evil-bay search. Found many around the $400 mark but just didn't bite. The one I bought, I think the auction was less than an hour old with a Buy it Now for $225 plus $25 shipping so I hit it. I really wanted the flamed maple and wasn't crazy about the sunburst but I've grown to love the color, seems the black are the most prominent ones around.

I had to replace my preamp but I found a Dean that was the same width so the hole only had to be cut a little longer to accomodate the battery compartment. No more reaching thru the soundhole for me! While the luthier was at it he changed out the plastic nut and bridge saddle for "bone" ones too! Now it plays like a dream and sounds really nice amped too.

Just my opinion, but you may want to strip down some of those chrome parts and shine them up for top dollar. Good luck if you go to sell it, I'd be interested to hear what you get for it. And don't forget my generous offer, heck I'd even go up to $50 for ya!
