Now if someone from Fender could come out with answer to this one, i would be grateful.

I got this guitar, Fender Casa Grande, in a trade. Looks like this one. http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/slas ... ar/721570/

Now, when i try to figure out what do i have here, people keep telling me there is no such thing. But i have perfectly good reason to believe, i'm not a mad person (or at least in the way, i see things not existing ;), so the guitar IS.

The thing is in mint condition, very beautifully crafted. Flame maple, gold(ish) hardware and electrics have Fishman classic 4 brand with Fender-logo printed in. Serial is KS000900082 and there is "made in Korea" printed in the back of the neck.

So what is this? Forgery or real thing? Google doesn't have answers for this and so it seems, this forum does not either. Lets get one now, shall we :)

Hi Wauwau,
I'm not a Fender employee I don't think you have a forgery. I think it's unlikely that someone would put that much effort in to producing a knock-off of a guitar that is not well known and highly sought after, Fender acoustics are perfectly fine instruments and I have two that I love but they have never really been as highly prized as Martin or Gibson in the eyes of acoustic aficionados.

What you have is likely a prototype that may have been produced to test dealer/consumer response to a new design at a trade show like NAMM and was maybe bought there but then never actually made the jump to full production.

Keep asking around, eventually you'll find someone who knows something about it. One thing about guitarists, most of us are gear heads and we love to talk about our guitars past and present.

Good Luck!

wauwau: you are not mad.

I too have a Casa Grande, and am puzzled as to why it seems to be a non-existent model. There is no information on this guitar anywhere, yet it's a very nice guitar.

Mine was bought from new (about 1999), was originally priced at £600, but on sale at £420 (or there abouts), but it had a big problem from the outset. I thought the action was a little high, but it turned out to have an incorrectly set neck. When fixed by my local guitar tech, it played like an electric.

Here's another odd thing. Mine has a 1999 serial number, while yours is a 2000, so there must have been a production run.

Every person who has seen or played this guitar thinks it's brilliant.

PS: you may like this link? http://www.station-music.de/gitarre/fender_ag.html. Check-out the Cameron. It looks like the Casa Grande.

That looks alot like the Yamaha APX acoustic/electrics I've seen. Very nice looking guitar.

I went through similar frustrations when trying to find info about my Fender Montara, seems like they have no records of some of these limited models. The other hard part is trying to find a soundhole cover for use with a PA. My Montara has a similar oval soundhole, found one on ebay by the way, had to do a little custom cutting around the neck pocket but it works fine.

And everybody that plays my Montara also think it's a "keeper." Could have sold it many times over.

Gentlemen (and because of the possibility of the legend about a girl being in internet, lady)

I have to thank you all for your input. After few months of owning this, i've decided to keep it (trade, remember. Those are usually for money yet to come). The guitar is actually quite good, although larger neck would be appreciated. With this thing i can ease my fingers after my SRV ;)

Now all i need, is a miracle. There (i know that people build them every day) is still one Vintage Hot Rod 62 waiting for me somewhere. However the god of lottery has turned his/hers (these times of equal rights confuse old guitarits easily) rear end to me and there may be not enough money in the whole world to finance my 9th guitar (said SHE. Women... Funny, how it is easier to understand rainbow'ish people, when you're old enough to having lived with a woman for 25 years).

Back to numbers (now what was her birthday again..?)

Thanks again

Thanx for the info Rob, interesting that this Casa Grande that is so "unheard of" is also in the "California series", like the Montara. Coincidence that they are so hard to get info about?

Hi WI KISSfan,
Well......we don't know what we don't know I guess, lol.
I'm really familiar with the Montara's as I've inspected many of them. In terms of info, we're very lucky to have a Manager here is Customer Service that sees the value of documenting as many models of instruments as possible and stays pretty busy doing that along with all the other stuff he does. Soooooo, i think we have most everything we've ever made in the database......but like I said at the top.....we don't know what we don't know. Casa Grande was there though....Score!!

Best regards,
rob

This may be a prototype of this guitar or fishman series :
http://www.lordelmusique.com/fender-red ... shmantuner

(Fender Redondo CE, Cutaway, Natural, Spruce Top, Mahog' Back and Sides, Fishman/Tuner)

They have almost the same appearance

I bought my casa granda in France ...

Glad to see that you've found my Ultimate Guitar profile :P

i bought my Casa Grande from a local music store (i live in australia) and it was 2nd hand, for $400. I bought it around 2-3 years ago and it seemed as if the previous owner(s) had looked after it very well as there was no sign of wear anywhere on the guitar. Although i have not done much research on the guitar either.

Montara was a strange animal but I love mine. I have the Spruce top, natural, built in 1990, but I can't figure out if it is the (list price) $575 or $695 model. I suspect the electronics were the deciding factor there. My model number is "MONTARA" and it has the volume and three band EQ. Need to get the frets dressed, truss rod adjusted, etc. soon. The old girl is 24 years old. I guess that means I'm older than dirt!
She sure sounds sweet though.

Mine is the tobacco burst, a color I wasn't overly fond of but I've also always been a person who looked for a little more character or color then natural. No offense intended there, just my preference.

I had mine for only about 3 months and the pickup died in it. And when I went to replace it I wanted to get away from that ridiculous "battery access through the soundhole" thing, awkward! I put in a Dean that was the same width as the original so just had to cut the hole a little longer to accomodate the battery compartment. Love having the built in tuner too, except when you regularly forget to turn it off and drain the battery!

I also had the local luthier put a "bone" nut and saddle on it when he replaced that pickup system, made it sound much better. Still don't get the bassier sound you do from a jumbo Taylor or anything but you can't beat the comfort of it.

Rock on, good to hear from others that enjoy their Montara. Are you the orig owner? I snagged mine off Ebay for $200 including a nice hardshell case, couldn't pass it up.

Original owner. Case was extra. I've been thinking of going to a Fishman or LR Baggs preamp. The sliders are kinda scratchy. I need to do some comparisons between the original and the Presys and Element preamps as far as size goes. The pickup is under saddle just like the name brands. She's in "almost" cherry condition but I still don't want to spend a ton of money...
