Okay, a few months ago, I posted a thread asking about "higher-end" Fender acoustics, as I could not find one in the current lineup that sounded and played well.

Well, on a quest for a good "cheaper" acoustic to fly overseas with, a salesman at Guitar Center pointed me towards some Fenders. After playing a couple, I found a DG200SCE. I was absolutely blown away with the quality, tone, volume, and playability of this Fender!

For $300-400, I have not ever played a guitar that comes close to this one! It has surpassed my $1100 Takamine as my favorite acoustic guitar to play. Preamp is amazing, and the tuner works fairly well.

Fender, I hope this is the direction of things to come in the acoustic department! Great job!

And all of their acoustics (Fender, Tacoma, Guild) are just going to keep getting better with the hiring of Ren Ferguson away from Gibson.

I'm good with that. I've tried to love Gibson guitars, but I'm just too much of a Fender fan... I'm also a fan of Fender prices (at least compared to Gibson)...:)

I'm in agreement and happy to see Fender step up their acoustic production. I've always had a soft spot for Fender acoustics, maybe 'cause I've always identified with the underdog. So I was happy to experience the quality that Fender is bringing to the entry to mid level priced market, while shopping for a new acoustic electric. My CD-220SCE was the only guitar I found in my price range that I couldn't put down. I'm still impressed with the sound 8 months later.

To my mind the only thing they could improve is playability as my factory set up was a tad high and the frets could have used another level of polish (they were not raspy like some new guitars in this price range but not super smooth either) and the tolerances in the fit of parts, my neck is solid enough but the neck to body joint could be sharper and the bookmatching of the sides is a little off.

I love the sound though, it inspires me to play, takes me in new directions and that's what counts. And the ovangkol back and sides are really truly beautifully finished.

I took mine in, as I thought the action was a bit high from the saddle. Had a shop take a look at it. Neck was fine, but there was a shim under the bridge saddle. Took that out, strung it back up, and now it plays like a dream with no fret buzz at all...:)

Weird that there was a shim under the saddle that had raised the action too high. Maybe a factory tech was a tad over zealous when setting up the guitar and dropped it to a point where someone with a heavier playing style might get fret buzz. Anyway glad it plays well for you now.

Cheers!
