Anyone know if it's safe to go up to a medium gauge on the T-Bucket 300? I was looking to go to a .013-.056 set of strings to avoid some of the buzzing I get sometimes on the low-E and just to see how I like the feel of medium strings.

Thanks!

Hello checkers2884,

If you have buzzing with 12s on the guitar you probably need to have your guitar setup. Or at least have the truss bar adjusted. If you have not done that before you may want to have a guitar tech do it for you; they can also check to make sure you don't have a high fret. As for the 13s; they may solve your problem by the extra tension on the neck, but you may find that the action is higher than before; making difficult to play the guitar. I recommend taking it in and having it looked at before you try a set of 13s.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply

I'll definitely have it looked at for the buzzing before I make any changes. I guess my primary concern is, do you think it would be okay for the guitar structurally to put 13s on? I am having trouble finding any documentation on how heavy of strings can go on the T-Bucket 300. To me it doesn't sound like a huge jump going from 12-13 on the high-E or 52-56 on the low-E, but I'm totally a n00b at this stuff.

It's hard to tell from the specs listed, since the neck material is not listed. I would pose the question to the guitar tech. Having said that; being that the top and body are all laminated material I would think it would hold up to a set of 13s, but perhaps some with experience will chime in with a definite answer.

Cool, I'll just ask a tech at the store and if they give their blessing I'll give the medium strings a shot. I forgot to mention previously that the buzzing only comes on the low-E in a drop D tuning, so I'm guessing the setup isn't too far off from correct (at least for my playing).

Anywho, thanks again for the replies. Hopefully someone that has tried mediums on a t-bucket or similar will chime in.
