I have just bought the Fender CJ-290SCE (jumbo) and i have noticed that the fishman pickup is placed on the bottom part of the guitar insted of being placed on the top part as shown in the picture.

I wanted to know if this is fine or a problem/mistake with the guitar when it was built.

I have also noticed a buzzing sound when playing 6th string open.
I found out that the battery is causing it. So I wanted to check out if this was common? (after removing the battery the guitar stoped buzzing and now when i put it back in it "buzzed" only once since)

please someone help me :(

Hello GuitarMaster2012,

I suppose you mean the preamp rather than the actual pickup, since the pickup is under the saddle and can't be seen without removing it. So, then are you saying that the preamp was installed on the lower bout rather than the upper bout as shown in the picture? If so I have seen that before; in fact I have a guitar on which that was done, but I am not sure why. From an electronic point of view it should not make any difference, but from a user point of view it may make it a little more challenging to adjust controls or tune while gigging. Other than that It has not been an issue, since everything works just fine.

Hope that helps.

Very likely the lower bout with its larger radius just offered better fit for the curvature of the preamp frame that screws to the guitar. I just did a quick comparison between the CJ 290 and a dreadnaught the upper bout on the dread is much flatter. I bet they were having an issue with the frames breaking as they were installed on the curvy upper bout of the jumbo. Is your preamp located just below the waist where it's relatively flat? I'll bet it is.

In any case as RIX11 says electronically it shouldn't make a difference.

As to the buzz, the battery may not have been snapped in tight and the big E string had the power to make it vibrate a little. Just make sure its in there tight. Maybe wedge a piece of thin cardboard in along side it to immobilize it.

Good luck end enjoy your new guitar!
