Greetings.

I'm usually over at the tdri forum talking about my Baja.

I just bought the Clam Bake and love it. It looks just like the picture above
The sound is bright and full. It has good volume that comes close to a jumbo. I really like the head stock and dreadnought body. Another plus, my wife thinks it's my most pretty guitar. Granted, she is comparing it to a Tele. My other guitar is a Les Paul.

Great job Fender. This is a winner.

Hi. I like this guitar.
I have a few original 60s Kingman Wildwoods.
The originals were solid dyed Beechwood back and sides and not a laminate like this one (you could see the stain all the way through). The headstock was a laminate and the Wildwood Coronados were a laminate, but the Kingmans we solid and I have to say the Beechwood sounded amazing. Its like Maple but gives you more in the high and lows. I wish this was solid beechwood and that more companies looked into using beech but other than that I like this and happy to see it. I am looking forward to some more 'wilder' finishes too hopefully.
Good job.

Like doublev2 above, I also have a Wildwood from the sixties, a WW V model in the blue finish.
I never knew they were solids in the beech wood sides and backs. Mine is in need of some restoration work, but since it was my first good guitar ... ( Dad lent me the money and I slowly paid him back) it has great sentimental value for me. I really learned how to play on that, it was my third guitar. Now its nearly fifty years later, and I'm still playing Fender gear!!

I just bought one. Its impressive for the money....my other acoustics are high end Martins, Guilds Ovations and Adamas. I was pleasantly how good this sounded. Bright lively sound. Fit and finish is excellent. How do find out if you were one first 500 buyers for the promo?

Brad...Jim Bryant....please read!

Don't know how well the Elvis Kingman is selling, and it really doesn't matter, because the stock corporate answer, if ANY, is probably going to be along the lines of "...meeting or exceeding manufacturer's expectations for a niche-model instrument at a price-point, blah blah blah..." or something like that!

Maybe Fender and Elvis Presley Enterprises worked out some awesome mutually beneficial financial and cross-promotional deal, and I can understand the business aspect of that, but, from the perspective of a life-long Fender ethusiast, as well as a life long Elvis fan, and a still-performing singer/guitarist, it just misses the target.

See, Elvis used the guitar briefly, and almost as a prop, in one of his all-time LEAST respected movies, CLAMBAKE. When discussing the theatrical career of Elvis, CLAMBAKE hits pretty close to rock-bottom. Wikipedia says "This was the last film for which Presley was able to demand and receive a $1,000,000 salary. The relative lackluster box office performance of this movie, combined with his desire to do more serious, less commercial films, meant that studios were no longer willing to guarantee him a seven figure paycheck for his performance." And "Clambake sold less than 200,000 copies, faring worse than its predecessor Double Trouble which had been his lowest-charting album so far." And even to many die-hard Elvis fans, the movie simply sucked! And the songs were garbage. And now Fender has put out a guitar celebrating the lowest point in Elvis' career!

However, having said that, the guitar itself is actually pretty cool. And I have a great idea for it!

Paint it black, with the black headstock, and give it a gold anodized pickguard (and add a transducer under the bridge saddle please). Ring a bell yet? OK...go to YouTube and look up Johnny Cash's Television show from the 70's. What do you see Johnny Cash playing? What do you see Neil Diamond playing? I don't know the exact model those guitars were, but I DO know they were non-cutaway Fender acoustic guitars with the strat-style headstock in black with the gold pickguard! BINGO! Looks like a black Kingman to me!

Now you have a guitar that was REALLY, ACTUALLY used by two performers who REALLY played guitar and have stellar reputations as musicians and singer/songwriters! And you already have the guitar!! Just market it as a Johnny Cash, or a Neil Diamond...or just put it out as a black "Kingman" or whatever you want to call it and let us players make the connection ourselves!
I would buy one in a hearbeat, and I know a lot of other performers would too...especially the Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond tribute artists...of which there are hundreds! Although, if you DO decide to do this, I would expect one for free...afterall, it was my idea! :)

Johnny Cash played a Black Fender Malibu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It7107ELQvY
Buck Owens played a Kingman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDmDwvZSlPw
Tex Ritter Hank Williams Jr played Wildwood models.

I had the same thought why introduce a Elvis Guitar when only held it for 10 sec in one movie.

Thanks P-E-Z. That's exactly right!

Here's a couple more:

http://youtu.be/C1NDEdKkAaQ

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/11289/lot/133/

Now THAT's credibility! A LOT more than Elvis holding one in a crappy movie! And please don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Elvis fan...and a huge Fender fan...I just don't see any added value to either here!

But Johnny Cash? Neil Diamond? Buck Owens? Are you kidding me? Where do I sign up?

Fender...are you listening? You're right on top of a goldmine here...IF its marketed correctly! And it's a homerun...because you already have the guitar!! Just a few little tweaks...
The Fender Heritage Acoustic Guitar Series. I already have a campaign worked out!

Agree they have great way of doing it really..... Ray Davies the acoustic guitar that comes in after the resonator on Lola is Fender Malibu. Bob Dylan used a Kingman for a while too.

The Kingman had and individually adjustable saddles, light bracing (something like Ovation's A bracing) , The neck was a bolt on electric neck so there was no hump. Its was dreadnought. Its also had the aluminum tone bar running through the body.

The Malibu had a traditional bridge, It is smaller OO size body, The neck was a bolt on electric neck. I am Pretty sure Malibu did not have a tone bar.

These guitars had their own unique voice. It would be nice the way they were designed to be.

I added a Thinline plus pickup to mine..... Plugged in it sounds more like a $1200 guitar.

I got a chance to play the Clambake and I must say the I love the hell out of it. I really could care less if Elvis played this or played that, really don't give a crap! This guitar works and it looks great. I will be buying one around Chirstmas time as my present to myself. Viva Los Clambake!
