I have a fender acoustic electric CD 220 SCE classic 4T with the fishman pre-amp I'm looking at for a friend and it has an annoying problem...when i first plug it in it plays fine then after a few minutes the power drops and it sounds like the speaker in the amp is blown then it goes off but if i hit it gently near the jacj or move the battery/pre-amp assembly around it starts to work again, eventually doing it again in a few minutes..

Lets assume I've done the obvious
I've changed the battery and
checked all the connections...any ideas?

Thanks in advance

You said you checked all connections? You might try checking where the pickup leads connect to the pre-amp. This will require removing the pre-amp and doing some disassembly. The piezo pickup leads attach to the circuit board via a screw header that "clamps" the wire. Sometimes the wire will slip or the screws were not tightened enough to secure the wires. This would explain when you tap on the guitar it will start working again but as the guitar is played, the problem re-appears. That would be my guess- good luck.
