I have a cut away CJ 290 SCE I bought a year ago. The low
E string measures 5/32 off the 12th fret. Is this the right height?
It feels too high for me. The guitar is in storage so I have
not played in awhile. I could have sworn the strings were lower.
I check against other Fender cut aways and got measurments
of 3/32 and 4/32 off the 12th fret.
Is my neck warped? Can an adjustment of the truss rod
fix the height? Or is this the normal height for a CJ 290?
Thanks

Nice guitar; I really like the jumbo looks and sound. Anyway how low or high the action is on your guitar will depend in part on your playing style, but 5/32” on the low “E” does sound a bit high. First you need to get your guitar into the correct environment that is a place that is neither too dry nor too humid. A too dry or too wet environment can affect the wood and change your action. I would suggest that you take your guitar to a guitar shop and have a guitar tech take a look at it and advise you which way you need to go to correct the problem. Without seeing your guitar I can’t determine if your neck has a problem or not. Sometimes adjusting the truss rod can correct high or low action issues, but I advise having a guitar tech look it over first before adjusting. Also have him do a setup to improve playability and intonation. Just as an FYI I usually shoot for 5/64 on the low “E” and 3/64 on the high “E” strings at the 12th fret when I do a setup on my guitars. Hope that helps you, good luck.
