Just purchased this beautiful acoustic (ESM-10E) and I think it was a great deal to boot.

However, in trying to find information on this particular model, it seems to be all but forgotten on Fenders Web Site. Cannot even track the serial number. It has a great full sound when played without amplification, fantastic electronics, however, at the moment, I do not have a decent amp. to play it though. Here are the specifications I have found so far.

A sonic cannon with tremendous volume and projection with always-great tone.

The ESM10E mini-jumbo acoustic model is the finely crafted result of a collaboration between Fender Custom Shop Senior Master Builder Chris Fleming and Don Hector, master luthier in Fender's Ensenada, Mexico, factory.

The ESM10E guitar . Features include a solid spruce top, solid Mexican rosewood (palo escrito) back and sides, Grover vintage-style tuning keys, wood binding, ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge and bridge pins, a hard case and Fishman Ellipse VT electronics for pure, natural amplified acoustic tone without altering the instrument's body.

Does anyone have any hands on information they can share on the Ensenada series? It seems to be an attempt by Fender to get into the higher end of the acoustic arena.

No one in the forums has this baby ?????????

Just for everyone's information, Musicians Friend now has this for $699, no shipping costs with Fender hard case.

Folks, this is really an odd Fender model. I have always thought of Fender acoustics as low end, beginner type..... but not this one. It is on the same level as Taylor 700 or 800 series (more bass than Taylor) and above the D-15 series of Martins (the mids are better defined) and with the Fishman VT preamp its a steal.

I purchased this for the wife, however I may be getting one for me too!!

Too bad this is my very own forum post. Anyway, Musicians Friend is sold out. At that price point, I knew they would not last when people found out you could get a solid spruce top with solid rosewood sides and back for less than $700 bucks. What a steal.

I owned a ESD-10e in the past and really liked it. Played it out at church through a HUGE sound system and it sounded incredible. Ended up selling it with impending third child. Great guitar. I happened to be at my local fender dealer recently and saw an ESA-10CE with a cutaway Grand Auditorium body. Priced at $599! Sounds incredible, so I felt obliged to rescue it. I put it on hold and will be back soon to pick it up. They really are beautiful and well made guitars. It seems Fender has already abandoned them and its pretty sad. Very nice sounding well built guitars. So yes, I have (soon) actually had two of the Ensenada guitars and they are incredible guitars, especially now for the money.

The other great feature of this beautiful guitar is the Ebony fingerboard. Even the top tier manufacturers such as Martin and Taylor go with rosewood rather the the superior Ebony. Its a very difficult wood to work with and 20 times more expensive than rosewood. However it has these advantages:

1. Ebony is much harder and polishes up beautifully so that the neck feels smooth and slick. It's much harder and therefore you can get a better percussive tone when doing two hand tapping and hammer on's or playing without a pick.

2. Ebony reduces finger fatigue. If you play for hours your fingers will appreciate the smoothness. It's barely noticeable but the smoothness makes it so that you can play longer without getting sore fingers.

3. Cosmetically Beautiful, The Jet Black Ebony contrasts nicely with the binding and/or inlay material, also it effectively hides any filler for a much cleaner look.

4. Ebony is much stronger and much more stable. It helps keep your neck straighter and also protects it from breaking.

The bridge is also ebony. I looked at the wood on the one I am buying, and I thought it looked like Micarta, the synthetic Ebony like product Martin uses for its fretboards and bridges on many of guitars. Taylor used to use Ebony on all of its guitars, even the baby. I did notice the 210 and 214 models had rosewood.
The Ensenada guitars have some other outstanding features. The Rosewood binding is beautiful.

You are correct about the Taylor's. I just viewed the Taylor website and confirmed that the higher end models of Taylor do use Ebony on the fingerboard, the lower end use Rosewood. The Martin D-28 also uses Ebony along with the higher end Larrivee's.

Here's my ESA-10CE. Very sweet guitar. Beautiful appointments. I resist buying guitars based on looks (thick gloss finishes, Mother of Toilet Seat inlays, etc), especially on inexpensive guitars. This guitar is like a high end Taylor or Larrivee. A lot of bling and it sounds clean, rich, full, and sweet. I cannot believe I only paid $599 for it. The case is awful, but the guitar is a gem.
