I am looking for this two acoustic guitars.
Either CD-280SCE Cutaway or CD-140SCE
Which one is better?
Also , where are both of them made in?

Hey Vincy,
It's not so much a case of which is better as much as which one you prefer. The real difference between these two is that the CD-140SCE is made with laminated mahogany back and sides and the CD-280SCE is made with laminated rosewood back and sides. They both have a solid spruce top, which is a good thing, I just bought my first solid top instrument (the CD-220SCE) and the difference in tone between the solid top and my old guitar with a laminated top is very noticeable. Most players will tell you that the tone of a solid top will also continue to improve as it is played and ages, whereas a laminate top will not. My old laminate top guitar sounds pretty much the way it did 21 years ago when I bought it.

What difference does the side/back material make? Tonally mahogany is generally a more balanced sound with no particular emphasis on the bass, midrange or treble. Rosewood will supposedly favor the bass register of the instrument. That difference is likely more subtle between two instruments that are both made with laminated back and sides than it would be in a comparison with two all solid wood instruments.

I am no expert and these types of comparisons are highly subjective. The best thing you can do is to find a dealer that has both and play them back to back to see which one you like more. If you are a beginner see if one of the salespeople can play them both for you.

To answer your second question both are likely made in China, probably in the same factory.

Good luck!

I agree with Zach. I know I can't give a concrete answer since I haven't tried CD-140SCE. The CD-280SCE is a great sounding acoustic. I played it several times, (anywhere I could see one since I don't have one  ). Try both guitars and get what you want.
