I was half expecting a hard plastic "molded" case, but I also couldn't believe they'd give away a $129 case with a 400 dollar guitar. I was half expecting a red felt lined cardboard thing, so I was pretty happy to see a nice, asthetically pleasing, "Car Case" (That's what I call a case good enough to put in the car yourself, but not good enough to trust with baggage handlers).

Fitted would be a lot more accurate than Molded.

OK, I did it.

[sigh]

Watch, they'll send me one in a gigbag with a broken zipper!

I never really thought much about cases until I got my new Gretsch Tennessee Rose last year. At that outrageous price point at least they come up with a case you'd like to sleep in yourself!

Be sure and let us know what you think of it. I was considering the GDO, so I'd like to know how it is, and if it has the same case.

I will. It should be here in about nine or ten days with "three- to five-day delivery."

No rush, I'm busy putting up a fence in the back yard and my hands aren't up to playing right now.

I got a 10% off +$50 store credit thing in annoyance-compensation for a nightmarish order screwup late last year, so I wound up getting it for $309.99.

It shipped today, with a shipping weight of EIGHTEEN AND A HALF POUNDS, which would suggest to me that there's a pretty heavy case in there.

We'll see. It's supposed to be delivered Thursday, though I'm somewhat skeptical.

It came today. It's back in the box and will go back tomorrow.

Though my guess is that this one is entirely representative, I will give Fender the benefit of the doubt and say this one could be a lemon, as evinced by the obvious fact that it's been sold and returned at least once, possibly three times. It was filthy, covered with dust and dirt, had the accessory bags ripped open and emptied and at least five kinds of tape had been used to repeatedly reseal the box.

I'm really getting tired of MF sending me used gear.

Aside from that, this thing is simply junk, a $129.95 drugstore guitar.

There are four large to very large (2"+), dark grain blemishes that look almost like cigarette burns in the natural topwood, which is of a much lower grade than the illustrated example, the binding is put on so badly that they've had to fill an uneven gap between the side and binding with mismatching putty all the way around the top, there are large blemishes all over the neck under the finish, the label on the piezo controls is on grossly crooked, etc., etc. Just really nasty, cheap work.

Fretwork is very strange.

The machines aren't Grovers, but generic Chinese sealed units as used on Squiers. The case is really rough, with lumps and debris under the vinyl, lifting edges, etc.

Sound was thin, with some very noticeable dead spots in the G and B strings.

I've seen some very nice Chinese acoustics, but this one looks like it was built by people with no clue.

I am very, very disappointed with this POS and am shocked that Fender had an MSRP of nearly $950 on it. It's worth less than half of the $309 I paid for it.

That's funny, my tuners say Grover right on them :? The pictures I posted of "MY" guitar don't come anywhere neer the description you've made.

I trust you have picture of the guitar you bought, I'd like to see all this.

My case was perfectly smooth. Are you sure you got it from Musicians Friend? Sounds like an Ebay Auction to me.

These are some serious accusations to have no photos backing your "Claims". .

I'm Sceptical!!!!!!

(edit after posting)

I may add the guitar in question should have cost you $399 dollars. You didn't buy this through Musicians Friend unless you had a discount or credit from Musicians Friend.

Here's me playing the GDS-500-SE unplugged. Pardon the singing

Sound quality is limited by the Camera. It's a Kodak made for stills, but I'm using the video setting.

Note that they are different guitars, too.

If you look at the illustrations in the MF pages for these, you'll see that the machine heads are different. The ones I got are like their illustration of the Orchestra, but black, not chrome, and definitely not Grovers. The Dreadnought does have the tell-tale "lima bean" Grover knobs.

No, I didn't waste the time. I was tired and disgusted and had it repacked within an hour of receiving it. I'm also not equipped to do the macro work necessary to clearly show the puttied-up gaps between the top binding and the sides anyway. That was the no-go clincher for me.

Getting a natural top always leaves you open to more cosmetic flaws, though these were pretty extreme. What they look like are brown nicotine stains, dark "ghost" spots in the grain like someone was holding a cigarette right next to the wood.

Unfortunately, I did get it from Musician's Friend...it only seems like a eBay burn.

MF (from whom I buy a lot of gear) has repeatedly sent me other people's returned defective/trashed gear as new A-stock and I have repeatedly complained to them about it, though there is nothing inherently wrong or illegal with selling returns as new if they are in A1 shape. They acknowledge doing it and make good on it if it's defective. The warehouse is supposed to examine returns before restocking, but it's never much more than a quick glance. A MF saleskid told me that people not infrequently get the SAME instrument that they returned as defective sent back to them as a good replacement if stock is low. The warehouse crew seems to create a lot of problems; they sure have for me.

That's fine. I live by "show up and tell the truth." If people don't believe me, that's OK, it's not my problem.

I was asked to say what I thought of this thing when I got it and I did. What I said was true and unexaggerated, though perhaps (as I said) not typical of all these instruments, but this one is a sorry mess. Even the most deluded fanboy would think so.

10% discount + $50 credit = $309.99.

I'd still like to see a picture of your claims.

(EDITED by ForumAdmin: FirstMeasure, I read this thread from the start with an open mind and zero bias either way but I truthfully see nothing wrong nor over the top with Bezmotivnik's comments here. The guy ordered a guitar, may have gotten a 'lemon', and is understandably a bit frustrated. I'm removing your accusatory comment here.)

I must point out, between my family and I we've had over 12 Intrument Orders filled by Musicians Friend, half of which were Fender Products. We only had to send back one Squier Telecaster because the Jack came loose. They returned it free of charge and the next ine was in great shape. It concernes me that someone would use Baseless Fear Tactics, usually only found in Political Threads, to disuade guitar shoppers from buying Fender or online shopping.

I'd be glad to go on about it agian.

Playability is almost like an electric. The Electronics are really Acoustic sounding, and the built in tuner is just too cool 8) . However this guitar shines when played unplugged. The bass response is fantastic, the Mid and High Tones are as Loud and Full (and I do Mean Full) as Bass Tones. Fretted Note sound as loud and clear as open strings (plays the Rain Song like a dream).

The three color sunburst is nicely applied and the Shiny finish is eveny applied. Just a beautful guitar.

I'd been shopping for an All-Solid acoustic for under $700 for about a year. I'd tried Epihone Masterbilt (thin sounding), Low priced Martins (Jasmines sound better), Breedlove (close, but no bass response), Taylor (see Martin), Alvarez (nice, but they have a short life excpectancy), and
Guild (Best until the GDS 500 went on sale for $399)

It's such a good Dreadnaught for the price, I suspect I may have gotten a Peach (one that come of the assembly line a little better than the rest), but if were only halph as nice I'd be h=just as happy.
