I was wondering if anyone could give me any idea of the value of this guitar. I came across it today and decided to pick it up to play around with. Got home and went to change the strings when I noticed the serial # was 5... So I wondered if this made it anymore special or collectable? Any help is appreciated..... thanks, Steve

Hello Steve,
Sorry but I don't think you've got a collectible instrument on your hands. Check out this link: http://www.fender.com/support/articles/acoustic-instruments-product-dating The excerpt below covers your instrument.

STANDARD SERIES (ACOUSTIC GUITARS IMPORTED FROM ASIA, DISTRIBUTED IN THE U.S. BY MIDICO)
MODEL YEARS MSRP MATERIALS
FC120 1982-1988 $295 Spruce top, rosewood back and sides

By Fender's own admission the serial numbers on their acoustic guitars are of no help in dating the instrument. Your serial number 00000005 may indicate that it was the 5th guitar ever of that model or the 5th to come off the line in that particular fiscal year. I believe that in order for a low serial number to impact the value of the instrument the guitar itself has to be considered a "collectible" model. And Fender have never been known for their acoustic instruments. Now a Telecaster or Stratocaster with a similar serial number would be a very different story.

I'm no expert, and if any other forum members have any info please chime in, but what you have is probably a very playable, well constructed, made in Japan guitar that will give you years of playing and fun. I have an F-35 of slightly older vintage that has zero collector value but loads of personal value; I'd go into a burning building to retrieve it.

Enjoy your guitar.

Thanks for the information.. My heart kind of skipped a beat when I saw all of the 000s and then the #5. I only paid $50.00 for it and it seems to be in very good condition... I am not really into classical instruments, but for that price I figure what the heck... I have already restrung it and played a few songs with it, and it plays nice... I THINK???? lol Thanks again for the information... It will be a nice addition to my closet..

Sounds like you got a nice guitar at a good price. I haven't played a classical in ages but that's what I learned on. They can be a lot of fun and have a different voice that can make for a refreshing change of pace. You'll likely find that the nylon strings will need a few days time to stretch until they hold tune for more than a few minutes. For lots of fun Try Led Zep's Babe I'm Gonna Leave You on it, see link below for tab :D

Cheers and have fun!
