First of all greetings to all, great forum you have here.

I'm a long time fender acoustic player but first time acoustic electric owner. I just bought the ovankol CD220SCE and my guitar strap does not fit over the input jack strap button very securely.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any good solutions or workarounds? I'd hate for its debut open mic performance to be memorable because my new guitar went crashing to the stage.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a CD-140SCE BK with the same problem.
(Funny I also got a F-35 think it's from '76.)

I think we'll have to buy a strap and cut a bigger hole in the end.

Thanks for the reply, don't you just love the F-35. I've never understood the bashing that Fender acoustics usually get on other forums. I'd go back in to a burning building for my F-35 and same for my new Fender.

I think I may do just as you suggest Mauriet and simply enlarge the hole.

Check out this site for more info on your F-35: www.philsfenders.com. The guy has a crazy amount of info posted and is really cool about answering email questions. He helped me figure out the date for mine.

Cheers,

The best thing to do is get a thicker strap and just take a razor blade and slash a little. I spent ages looking for a strap with a 'big hole' and finally someone told me what to do but I cut a cheap nylon strap.....the wrong way........make sure you cut away from the end of the strap  ........playing at a rehearsal, the strap tore and yarked hard on the lead and pulled the whole jack socket.....rsulting in a damaged guitar!!!!!

SO rule 1, get a strap that has a thick, leather end(or full strap) 2, get a razorblade/craft knife to cut with so there is no tearing in the strap and the leather maintains its strength and 3, when you make the cut just cut towards the length of the strap about 1cm. I have seen people cut above and below the strap hole as well as people cutting either side and both these make for a weaker strap.

It should still be tight, difficult to get onto the strap button but makes for a stronger hold.

Thanks again for the advice Pappawookie, I did just as you suggested and it's worked fine so far. I may slice a some leather away from the hole as well as lengthening the slit at the top.

Cheers!

Related problem - the pin/jack becomes loose because of the back and forth movement of the strap. Any ideas? I'm thinking the best solution is to add a new strap pin and use the stock pin strictly as a jack. But the thought of asking some tech to punch a hole in my new DG200SCE is pretty scary! :?:

Sounds like your strap is a little too tight. Try my above method to make the strap a little looser on the pin first. You should be able to tighten the endpin/jack. Next time you change strings get your arm in the soundhole and grab the interior gubbings of the jack either with your fingers or pliers and then tighten the outside just by twisting. A bit awkward if you are on the chubby side of slim like me and almost got my arm stuck in the guitar....................

Hey Bwynes, I too have noticed the endpin loosening when the strap twists. I'm a bit leery of enlarging the strap hole any more for fear of the guitar falling out in play. I've decided just to check the jack every time I remove the strap.

Pappawookee, thank you for adding the word "gubbings" to my vocabulary! Truly an excellent word.

Hey no worries!!!!

Gubbings - (noun) sometimes spelled gubbins meaning all the 'stuff' that goes along with an item or as a British colloquialism - (verb) to gubb meaning to thoroughly trounce or win as in to be gubbed at sport or as the Scottish Football manager would say, 'We was gubbed' - to beat someone is to gubb them or to give them a good gubbing............

I love daft words.....they make the world that little bit more fun........

Thanks for the advice guys. The strap I'm using is pretty solid - so I feel safe enlarging the hole a little. And I have gotten into the habit of checking the pin every time I pick up the guitar. Maybe this is something the guys at Fender should be aware of - - ya think?

Yep,

Just bought a CA-360sce 3-1-2012 and the end pin jack just caused the same problems. It seams to be a lot larger than the front one obviously the jack hole has something to do with it. I took it back to the Dealer whom I purchased it and he tightened it again. He stated that it was very odd how this was so big. I also couldn't put a strap on it correctly. Had the strap on only for a couple of days and the end pin came loose.

Fender fix this flaw. I actually called the Mesa Arizona Relations Department and complained and the guy talked about why didn't I buy a Martin or a Taylor.

There was visible bowing in the neck according to a Luthier I took it to and Left it off today to have it set up. I will let you know how it turns out I will pick it up on 3-15-2012 at 5pm. Also has anyone put Elixar Strings on these and if so How did you like them. I'm hoping he lowers the action a bit and gets it right.

Hay Fender why not take a bit more time before you send these out?

Also I have read numerous reviews out there on this guitar and all but one or two list the back and sides as laminated. Fenders own site lists the Back Solid Mohogany and only the Sides as Laminated Mahogany. The top as Solid Spruce. Yes if correct what an Incredible buy if the Solid Top and Back is True. Also Fender lists the neck as Mahogany and the Fret Board Indian Rosewood.

I bought the Guitar supposedly new of the shelf on 3-1-2012. I wonder when this Guitar was manufactured I didn't get much paper work with it other than the tags hanging off of the keys. It looks like the QCCARD says 11-03-2011.

So I'm interested if anyone has any solutions to the Guitar Strap problem with the OddBall Endpin Jack.

HOnestly guys, I swear to you just give the strap a wee slice. I don't really believe it is an issue for guitar companies........I mean you can't really alter the size of an endpin jack or the lead wouldn't go in. Dgrilli, can you post a pic of your jack? I am quite surprised to hear a guitar would have an endpin large enough to shock dealer.........

I would say, if anything, it is maybe an issue for strap companies to look at rather than guitar companies.........

As far as acoustic set-ups go.......hey I doubt you get any off the shelf guitar set up properly. A visible bow in the neck should be fixed with a bit of truss-rod adjustment. I see acoustics and electrics sold for thousands of pounds that have been taken out of packaging from transit and literally just strung up and put on the wall. Sometimes you just have to ask for a set-up when you are buying a new guitar. If a dealer is worth their salt, any guitar above a certain price point should be set up for your own personal taste before you take it home.
I have a mate who bought a Martin from Guitar Guitar in Einburgh and the guys spent almost two hours, free of charge, setting the thing up to his preferences......that's customer service and on the other hand I've had a guy come to me with PRS 25th ANniversary model he had custom ordered from a local store, desparate because he couldn't get it to play right and was considering selling the thing cos it felt so nasty so he wanted me to value it and ask about for anyone to buy it. I took it out of its case and the bridge was squint, the action all over the place, the neck was badly bowed and it had mis-matched strings on it!!!!! This was the condition he received it in from the store! THey had taken a special order of a guitar for thousands of pounds and had just phoned him when it arrived and not even looked at the thing!!!! The assistant had told hime it was the first one he had seen.....when my mate opened the case in the shop..............I spent half an hour with a basic set-up and it became the guitar he had dreamt of.........it's not rocket science but shops just don't like setting up the guitars properly!!!!
