Hi,

I love singing to others playing guitar so much that I actually schedule jam sessions at my home & business! I made 2008 a year to turn some new leaves, and one of them is to learn to play guitar so I can join in on the jams! Anyway... should I even consider it? If so, what are the right accoustic guitar and accessories with which to start? Here's some basics about me.

* 43 years old
* 5'4" tall
* 17" arms (arm pit to wrist)
* 6" hands (wrist to tip of fingers)
* I'd play classic rock, country, folk, blues, christian contempory
* Very capable on computers - and learn well this way
* I have lots of friends who'd help if I needed it
* I'm willing to devote the time it takes to learn
* I've never learned to read music
* I have some memory loss
* I don't have a lot of money
* I am intelligent and goal oriented

Does anyone have a good used guitar maybe?

Carol

Get the best Fender guitar you can afford man. You have great potential still. The best way to start on acoustic if you like singing is go online and find some of your favorite songs that use primarily chords. Then try to learn all of the most recurring chords (like g, d, em, a, etc.) and then go from there. :wink:

Agreed, learn G/C/D/Em and buy a capo. With just that knowledge the possiblitlies are endless.

And all of that personal info on weight/height/age/etc is great but the only bit that matters is "I'm willing to devote the time it takes to learn."

I started acoustic guitar at 40 yrs old, still can't read music. After learning songs by ear on my bass for 17 + years I just couldn't do lessons.

Buy one, learn something like Margaritaville that folks can sing around the campfire, using the above chords of course, and have fun.

Oh yeah, btw, buy a Fender!!
