Fender should seriously put some quality and details into these guitars. I think if they go all out and quit cutting corners they could make their rep much better and sell more guitars. Just my thoughts. I mean, laminated mahogany? Just bend some solid mahogany, with a nice solid spruce top, top of the line electronics with chromatic tuners embedded in them, bone nuts and saddles, snakewood bridges, and genuine HUGE pearl inlays at the neck! Is that too much too ask? Heck even if they hiked the price people would still buy them just bvecause they are the coolest looking acoustic guitars, I mean, people buy $699 Fender electric guitars right?

But how many buys the $1500 guitars? Bottom line is Fender is in business to make money, your accoustic idea would cost them more, so they'll charge more, even for a Made in China guitar.

Time to bump this thread! I'm a newbie here and I just bought a Malibu SCE (sunburst) that should arrive in the mail later this week. I've researched it pretty well and I've played a Malibu CE at my local guitar store, and for a number of different reasons, I'm really looking forward to having a guitar with a smaller body and sound than my big old dreadnaught. Anyway, feel free if ya'll want to comment about this guitar.

I agree 100% on that statment but i have to say that Fender is making so much on thier electric they wouldn't care to invest into the acoustics too much. There is way too many quality acoustic companies to compete with. If you want a really good small bodied acoustic look into Yamaha, Seagull and the Martin 000 series. The best i've found for small body acoustics for under a grand.

The Dick Dale Malibu that I won is utterly tremendous. The only slight niggle I've had with it was the saddle. It wasn't sitting flat in its slot. The High E was inaudible when amped. Took the saddle out, ran it over a sanding block a couple of times, put it back, problem gone.

Mahogany top, back and sides (not laminated) with a great maple neck. Sounds very nice and I'm expecting it to get a lot nicer as it ages.
