Ok, here goes......

Ever since I first got into guitars I've always wanted a nice small acoustic guitar that looked like...I dunno...just a jouneyman's guitar. Something that would look real nice and I found one of these online the night before I made this post and fell in love with it. I love the Cali vibe, me being from Florida, and it seems to fit my needs. The problem is I can't find a price anywhere and I'm not sure about the quality, it being a Fender (always found them to be "second grade" but haven't played one of these, them being brand spankin new) , and am sceptical on getting one because of this. :(

It's a beautiful guitar and I'd love one, so if anyone has played it or owns it or has any opinions on its quality and sound let me know please.

I own a Fender Malibu SCE and I absolutely love it. To be a small acoustic, it packs a big sound, with rich, clean tone. And when you plug it in, that baby will put out. One other thing that's really nice is the V-neck, which makes playing very comfortable and enjoyable. This is a great guitar at a reasonable price. Just my opinion.... Good luck!

Thank you SO much for replying. I'm real pumped about getting one of these, only problem is that I'm a 16 year old with no money whatsoever (4 guitars) so I'm really gonna start workin for it like I've done with them other guitars and mando. By the way, have you noticed Fender is adding TONS of pics in a short time? It's really cool. Within a week they have pics of ALL the color choices for the American standard strats and maybe teles by the time this post gets read, and they now have extra pics for the Malibu in natural finish. So glad they're really getting on putting pics on their site.

Again, thanks for the info, it means a lot to me because there's a 70% chance I'll have to buy blind and I want to make sure I know what I'm getting. But I don't think we're talking about the samve instrument, because the new sce malibu comes with a "c" shaped neck, not a v, like you said. Let me know if you in fact aren't talikng about the new malibu. I'm referring to the one that was released like mabye 2 weeks ago. :?

Hey, you're right...we're not talking about the same instrument! I didn't know there was a NEW Malibu. From what I can tell, these are the main differences between the new one and the one I have:

Some cosmetic changes, such as the pick guard and the inlays, and the availability of the sunburst.
Mine has chrome keys, the new one has white plastic.
Mine has a mahagony neck and headstock, the new one has maple, which accounts for the lighter color.
Mine has a solid mahogany back, the new one has laminated mahogany.

Since I have not even seen the new one, I can't comment on the sound. I noticed that the price list has not been updated yet either, so I'm curious about the price of the new one, too.

Anyway, best wishes on your search and purchase!

Man I wish you did have one, and I hope even more that they sound good. Can't compromise for much since my Alvarez sounds GREAT. Just really need something small and beachy (if any of you are reading this and are immature enough, I will allow you to slightly giggle at this time). Love the look and concept, just hope it's cheap and that it sounds good. Thanks for answering to this post and coming back to set me straight.

OK guys, i've had a new Malibu SCE for almost a month now, here goes the drill.
It's Chinese, and comes with TERRIBLY high action, as in unplayable.
Once adjusted, its really a nice playable little guitar.
The Maple neck brings the highs out a bit more, which is really good concidering its basically a thinline guitar.
The tone is a little flat, but somehow still has an incredibly clear "ring" to the harmonics.
Blues or Folk is what this axe is really going to excell at.
The electronics are really good and the tuner is handy.
It sounds VERY good played thru a clean Marshall amp..
Price online was $379.99
Buy & Enjoy, just don't expect Martin type clarity.

I'd also like to have my guitar adjusted, how much does it cost ?

Wild Rose, you can find detailed step by step instructions to do it yourself on Fenders "Support" page, go from it to "Set Up Guide", then "Truss Rod"
If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, any guitar shop can do it, and in my area its only about $20.
Enjoy !

Hey, almost forgot about that guitar as I've been looking into making my own. Thanks for the info, and it seems that blues and stuff like that is exactly what I was looking into using it for. Thanks.

I've been playing this new Malibu daily since i've gotten it.

Absolutely no issues yet, the origional neck adjustments I made are are holding true, the neck seems stable, and the tone is actually starting to "sweeten up" already. :D

The laminate glue smell is still strong, but i've not even had to re-tune it yet. (I tune both my acoustics 1 full step low, to reduce neck strain)

It may seem a little "cheap" to some, but its a $380 guitar.
For those looking for a "do it all" acoustic, i'd say look at a different guitar, but for anyone looking for the slightly thin, strained, slightly flat tones heard in many of the old origional blues tunes, THIS may well be the guitar you're looking for.
It records well too.

Fender should seriously put some quality and details into these guitars. I think if they go all out and quit cutting corners they could make their rep much better and sell more guitars. Just my thoughts. I mean, laminated mahogany? Just bend some solid mahogany, with a nice solid spruce top, top of the line electronics with chromatic tuners embedded in them, bone nuts and saddles, snakewood bridges, and genuine HUGE pearl inlays at the neck! Is that too much too ask? Heck even if they hiked the price people would still buy them just bvecause they are the coolest looking acoustic guitars, I mean, people buy $699 Fender electric guitars right?
