Hi guys, i was wondering if you can help me choose the best pickup for my acoustic guitar.. I wanted a pickup that would be best to hear the acoustic tone as it comes out naturally.. What are the best pickups out there that i can install?

Also what are passive and active pickups?

Thanks very much!

I've been using a Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pickup for about 10 years and it has worked great for me. The one I have is the Humbucker model and is active. http://www.fishman.com/products/details.asp?id=48

Simply put: Active pickups use batteries while passive ones don't.

Fishman now offers a Rare Earth soundhole pickup with a built in cardioid microphone and mic/pickup blend control. http://www.fishman.com/products/details.asp?id=46

Depends on what your goal is.

If you are going to do gigs and play through a 100 watt California Blonde or mic through a PA, then I would recommend a Fishman Rare Earth or a magnetic pickup that will not feed back at high volumes.

If your doing small gigs 50< people or recording and you want to recreate the real tone of your guitar, check out the K&K pickup. It is 3 sensors under the saddle and it's loud and sensitive compared to other undersaddle pickups. I have tried many pickups for acoustics and the K&K is one of the best in articulate clear tone. The one thing I like is it's ability to project a clear bottom without thump and flub.

K and K sound has a website called kksound.com I think there based in Canada. Check out the pickup with 3 sensors. That's the one I use. Also, check out the reviews at Harmony Central.
