Please Help!

Here we go I recently acquired a circa 1980's Fender Acoustic Electric Guitar. The model is Santa Cruz. The Guitar is Black with cream colored binding with cutaway. It has 22 frets. The action is good.I see a number inside the sound hole that say's 85002 the guitar says fender model Santa Cruz on the label inside the sound hole.Is also says Fender Santa Cruz on the Head Stock. The Tuners are all on one Side like a Strat.Tuners say ping on them.

I guess i'm looking to see if anyone has any info at all on this guitar, and or it's value, wood used, age ect ect. Please help me solve this puzzle...thanks in advance.

This is the best place to start - http://www.fender.com/support/acoustics.php
But the Santa Cruz isn't listed.

You might take a few photos and email them to Fender Customer Relations..... they should be able to help you id the guitar.

As far as value, Fender acoustics are not considered collectable. Most of the acoustics from the 1980's were made in Japan or Asia. If it sound great and you enjoy playing.... that's all that matters.

My Dad has had one of these guitars for 22 years. He bought used around 1988. We have never seen another one and I have searched the Internet for years and your post is the first time I have seen one mentioned. It is a very nice guitar and one of the best looking flat-tops Fender has made. They were made in Korea, I guess sometime in the 80's, probably as part of Fender's California Acoustic Series although it does not show up in their list of California Series Guitars. I've seen another black model called the Le Brea, but it does not have the sharp cut out. The Fender Santa Cruz is not a very expensive guitar, but a fantastic looking guitar and it plays and sounds good.

I have a Fender Montara, made in the late 80's/early 90's sometime. And I had a similar issue with not being able to find out anything about the history of the guitar. I tried contacting Fender and was really disappointed that they could tell me NOTHING about it. Really, their records are that poor that information on entire models are lost, very disappointing.

I would agree though, the value of these guitars is in the hands of the player, most people consider Fender acoustics to be not very valuable or anything special. But if you love it, it's worth everything to you. I would have to be in very tough times to get rid of my Montara.

I got one as well :-) And this is the first sign I see of anyone else than my own. I bought it in Calgary, Canada in 1987. Other than that, I have no info. Cant remember the price, but it was hanging in the expensive end of the shops row of guitars.
I love it - it plays absolutly great. I have not yet found a replacement, even among very expensive guitars.

I'm not sure with the model Santa Cruz but I'm sure I've heard that model before. Well my dad loves guitars and used to collect back in the days, I'm not just sure if this model is one of his previous collection. How much did you buy it Trevo?
