I'm very new to guitar, and therefore sort of an idiot when it comes to issues I have :( . I recently started getting really bad distortion on my acoustic-electric when played through the acoustic amp. Is there some very simple solution to this problem that I'm missing. I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with the guitar, since it's only a couple months old. Any advice you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks. Todd Schwantes.

Welcome to The Forum Todd!

Sound usually goes away if you sit/stand further from the amp. Or keep your body between the guitar and the amp.

I had the same problem, but it turned out to be an under powered amplifier. What are the specifics on guitar and amp models?

What is the condition of the battery in the guitars preamp?
A weak/dieing battery will cause all sorts of troubles.

You did not say which guitar you had but on my CD60-ce it is easy to pop out and change the battery to see if that might be the cause.

Do you mean feedback or distorted sounds as in not clear? If it's feedback or a howling loud roar then you need to adjust the eq on both the amp and guitar to balance out the sounds per volume. That and the use of a feedback buster that plugs up the soundhole should do the job. Now if it's unclear distorted sounds you might need to replace the battery and check the pickup connection to be sure it's not grounding out on something. Best thing is have a tech look at it and gave it fixed.
