Hey guys, as some people know here I am the proud owner of a Telecoustic Deluxe and I'm playing it through an Acoustasonic 30 DSP.

I'm just wondering how you like your guitar, what you guys are playing it through and also what you enjoy the most about it and what styles and tuning you primarily play on it.

Cheers!

CC

CC,
I have mine tuned to standard E and go through a Fender M80 Bass Amp Combo. I have the chorus on 3 and the bass set to 7 mids to 8 and treble to 9. It is one sweet set up.

Sounds very nice Eric, I'd bet with you being an Eagles man you're knockin out some greatness on that thing. I've never thought of running it through a bass amp before, I must give it a go!

CC,
It is amazing! The response from the big 15" speaker is amazing it makes it sound like a full size guitar! It is like what you get when you play an electric through an old Fender Bassman!

Hmm...CC, ABS and RickyD all on the same thread about a Tele... imagine...

I bought mine about 2 months ago based on how much CC loved his. Mine is the same as CC's - Telecoustic Deluxe; red, white binding top/bottom. I haven't put the pick guard on yet. (I like white, CC likes the tortoise!) It had been sitting in the shop for over a year w/ no buyers, so I made an offer on it (50% off list, $450, and the shop owner took it.) I think he was tired of it sitting, plus I buy a lot of used gear from him, so he probably figured he'd make out in the end.

To be honest, it's taken me a bit to get use to it. (You two are much better players than I am.) I play it only fingerstyle, which I don't do a lot of. I think it's more a mental block than anything. I keep it tuned to standard E and play it through my original 1965 Fender Champ Amp. I do like the way it sounds through the amp. It's pretty anemic played acoustically. When I find a used Acoustasonic amp I'll get one - they show up fairly regularly around here.

This week I've been playing the song "The Weary Kind" from the soundtrack to the movie "Crazy Heart". It sounds real nice through this combo of guitar/amp played fingerstyle.

I'm sure it will grow on me over time...

Have you guys ever played a Deluxe Nashville Power Tele? It has the Fishman Power Bridge on it with the funny little bridge pickups on it which makes it pretty acoustic-like. I found one of those a ways back and really like it for some different Tele sounds.

Hey Eric - did you get your mandolin? I ordered a Fender FM-53S the same day you posted that you had ordered yours (Great minds must think alike.), but haven't heard you comment on it yet. I bought a couple of "How to Play Your Mandolin" books and have been plugging away. It's hard to make my little sausage shaped fingers get use to the fret spacing, but I'm working on it. How do you like yours? I'm having fun w/ mine.

Take care my Brothers...

Rick,
Man you are the deal master!!!I like the set up you have for yours! It must be incredible! I haven't tried the Deluxe Nashville Power Tele. sounds nice though. Yes, i got mine. It is Rogue FMO A style with an oval sound hole. It is absolutely awesome. I have been working on Vivaldi's Concerto in G for 2 Mandolins , RV 532-2. Andante it is awesome. It will really help you understand the dynamics of the mandolin. I am going to be recording it and adding it to my album. Right now I am about 3/4 of the way done. Trying to be an Infantry Officer, Graduate Student, husband and musician is quite the task...and not in that order...husband always comes first. Only 6 more years and I am retired at 30 years...wohoo!!

Hey gentlemen!

I forgot I started this thread!

I have the sunburst with white and yes I would go tortoise with red but she's your axe my bro. Do as you feel. I hope she grows on you Rick, if she doesn't then at least you have a good seller with that version being discontinued.

I hope one day we are jamming together on those things!

As always I strongly recommend you try them through an amp from the Acoustasonic series or one of Marshall's acoustic amps. Thats when these things sound huge and crystal clear.

Happy playing my bros!

CC

Hey Ricky and ABS, are you guys using acoustic strings or electric strings?

CC - I'm using .10's electric on mine. You have some different ideas?

Do you guys think the Telecoustic is a good guitar for a kid to start taking lessons? I have a 30 + year old Alvarez acoustic guitar, but it's huge. I met a guy the other day that has a Telecoustic and he said he would trade even with me. My son is 8 yrs and I'm thinking this might be better because of the size.

Any thoughts?

I think it would be fine for an 8 year old but don't trade a 30+ year old Alvarez for it. If I'm not mistaken that Alvarez is worth way more as if it's one of the 70's lawsuit models. Do yourself a favor and research the Alvarez for it's worth before trading it off for a $200 guitar.

The guitar is perfect for any age!
But like Twang said, dont be exchanging a 30+ year old guitar for one. Keep that!

@ RickyD: I recently stuck some ultra light D'Addario's on mine but didn't add the wound G, I kept a guage 17 unwound on there. The sound is ten times more richer and still as easy to play!

I run mine through my Fender Rad Bass all the time. Sounds good!

For your son, try a 3/4 guitat for kids, he should be fine for a while. But some kids don't make the difference anyway.

As for the Alvarez, I would keep it. If you want a Telecoustic, try one first, they are great guitars, but like any guitar they are not everyones cup of tea. And Welcome to the forum barb2020. Enjoy your stay here. :)
