Welcome to the forums Ray. Maybe lighter guage strings and a neck adjustment would soften the action up. If that doesn't do it maybe filing the bridge to lower it a bit would help.

I haven't been to this part of the forum in a long time. Let's talk Montara, yeah, let's do it.

I have one and think it is about the coolest acoustic I've ever played, I love everything about it. Photos below.

As for action, def some neck adjustments and bridge/saddle work can help out this situation as you've already discussed. Here's what I've done to mine.

When I got my Montara the preamp was really weak on the E/A strings, and of course the battery access through the soundhole was very clumsy. After some time the preamp finally died altogether. I contacted Fender about getting a replacement preamp but I was unable to get any info on a good replacement that would fit the existing hole, it was like Fender had never heard of the Montara? I just didn't get it.

While in a local music store I was looking at preamps and I found a new Dean hanging on the wall. measured the preamp and found that the width was exactly the same as the one in the Montara already. It was a little longer due to the battery compartment being accessible from the top of the guitar, all in one.

The Dean people were very helpful and I had the new preamp in a few days for $70. I took it to the local luthier who put the new preamp in, and while he had the guitar he replaced the plastic nut and saddle with "bone" pieces which greatly helped the sustain and acoustic sound. And the new preamp rocks when plugged in.

Love these guitars, the closest thing they have now is the Sonoran and the body doesn't have the angled back like the Montara. I'd love to see photos of your Montara, enjoy it.

Hey WiKissFan I'm lovin that Montara. It is beautiful. Have you thought of going to a double pickup with it like the double play made by shadow?

No, I've never thought of that, in fact I'm not even familiar with that. The Dean that I've got in there now has been very good sounding. And it has a built in tuner which I've found very useful.

That's cool that she's liking that guitar. It will definitely keep her interest in learning to play if she is that happy with the guitar. These are just so hard to find, but today on a whim I typed Montara into the search box in Evil-bay and there's three of these on there.

Someday when I win the lottery, I want to have one of each of the three available colors in the Montara. :D

Those maple ones are really nice looking. I wanted one like that and wasn't a fan of the sunburst, but mine came up on Evil-bay for $250 including a case so I thought I could give it a shot. I've grown to like it alot.

Well, it worked, they're on page 6 so I got to see your family, some trucks, pics of your daughter in Bigfoot, etc.

But that Montara is really nice looking, love that flamed maple top. Very cool guitar. Hope she enjoys it for what it is, not just a regultar guitar and for what it can do, play very nicely.
