I wonder if you can get a decent deal at a pawn shop. It would seem with so many people out of work, there may be an opportunity to get a great deal on a quality guitar.

Hi to all

This is a lot of information above and my head is spinning. I am a mother of a soon-to-be seventeen year old who suddenly declared he wants to learn to play a guitar. His birthday is coming and I figured out I get him an acoustic guitar because I think it is the easiest one to learn. But I am not sure with all that information above. Would someone explain in plain English what would be the best for a guitar starter? And is the acoustic guitar in fact the best choice? Which one should I go after?

Algrani the best guitar to learn on in my opinion is an acoustic guitar. Just have it professionaly set up with nice low action or string height from fret board. You do want to buy a solid top which is all wood no composits or layered plys for a better sound and the electronics are optional but would be better after he advances with his playing. Brand choices are another thing altogether and is according to the money you want to spend. Let us know if you have anymore questions and welcome to the forums.

Thanks a lot Professional Musician for the advice :)

Well, let my boy do some research now! When he reads himself your great opinion and others as well, he will have a better big picture. Although, as you all probably know, teenagers can be stubborn...

Thanks again!
