I picked up a Fender F-65 acoustic and I have had a heck of a time finding the date on the guitar. I have seen the sites that describe the guitar and the features. And I know from the snowflake fret markers to the 17th fret and the adjustable bridge that it is more than likely from between 1975 - 1979. The only number I could find was stamped on an internal brace near the sound hole which is 876E. Anyone out ther know about this? Let me know if you have seen this type of serial number or if I am looking in the wrong place. It is not imprinted on the inside label like the others I have seen.
Thanks!
Rick

Hi Rick,

I've just seen your post. My F65 has serial number 3376E on the top strut inside the body, not on the F65 label itself, as well.

AS you probably know F65’s were made between 1972 and 1981 during the period of CBS ownership from 1965 to 1985. Mine was purchased in June 1978 so it was probably made in 1977 to 1978. The guitar has the snowflake fret markers and a fret marker on the 17th fret introduced from 1975 onwards as well as the simulated abalone shell binding & sound hole inlay and wooden marquetry on the back that 1979 and later models have.

Hope this helps.

Hi Folks; I have had a model F-65 for the past 20 years, serial number 0851, inside brace top sound hole. Mine is exactly as described by the second responder. I didn't buy mine new so do not know the original purchase date. It sounds like it may be a 1979 model? I hope this info helps in some way, as your info certainly helped me. Thanks

Don

This guy might be able to provide more info:

phil@philsfenders.com

I found his site while trying to find info on my F-35 and he was really cool about sharing his knowledge. Plus the site has great pics!

I think that 8 might be a 9. The numbers in mine is 19747. I think that refers to the year and an extra digit. So I would assume mine was built in 1974. This is just a theory.
