Does anyone else prefer laminate top over a solid top? I have one of each made by Takamine but i like the tone that my laminate jasmine produces better. It could be that i'm not use to theG334ce solid tops resonance but then again i've compared them side by side and still choose the laminate because its louder and not quite as bright. They both have the same set up but the solid top does have a cut away while the other doesn't. Maybe it just needs to age a bit. I'm concidering selling the solid top because the tone just isn't doing anything for me. Maybe some of you will have a remedy for me. I don't really want to get rid of it because it is the only one i can plug in if needed.

anywhere here on the internet you would find that laminate tops suck but IMO,it depends on the wood used to laminate(well,we would never know unless we go to the factory and the supplier but I'm talking about the wood in general).like 6twang said, laminate tops are durable.and through time, the laminated woods will gain space and be better sounding(my first guitar was a laminate,8 years and counting)

you might wanna know what woods are used for your both guitars the one with solid and the one laminated maybe it was a difference of wood that affected the tone and the volume

The Solid wood is Spruce top with Ovankol back and sides while the other is believed to be select spruce or cedar with mahogany back and sides. It could be the set up and amped sound that i'm not satisfied with on the solid top. Then again i've been regreting not getting the Fender Kingman i wanted to begin with when i got the solid top takamine and i could just be trying to convince myself it's time for a new guitar. The Tak did sound much better in the store though.

I have both and to my ears the laminate sounds brighter while the solid top sounds warmer. It might just be the difference in brands since I use the same strings on both. Again it might just be the difference in brands, but in my case the laminate sounds better picked than the solid top but the solid top sounds better strummed than the laminate. So if I'm going to sit down and do some fingerpicking I grab the laminate. If I'm just going to be strumming some open chords I pick up the solid top. When it comes to bar chords they seem pretty much the same. Hadn't thought about it before, but maybe I should experiment with different brand strings on the laminate to see if I can get warmer tones out of it.
