I played one of these unplugged recently at a local shop and liked the way it sounded.

Can anyone describe what this sounds like with the Tele neck pup?

Maybe it is their week off. Lets give them a couple of days to check in, I am sure there is at least a few owners of resonator guitars in the forum. There is a lot of info on Youtube, I'll try to find something about this model. See you Mike. 8)

Success at last, I found these links about the FR50CE. The first one is a good overall presentation, and the others are interestings interpretations using the FR50CE.

I couldn’t find any official Fender new product release video, so this is what I found out so far, I hope it can be usefull. I noticed that this guitar model is often called a Dobro guitar, but as far as I know the Gibson company is the legal owner of the Dobro name. But they are all resonator guitars, called spider, biscuit, tricone or whatever type they invented. Have a great weekend Mike. 8)

(Still waiting for Fender owners to share their experience) 8)

I had seen a couple of those, but good find!

150 thread views and not one owner to discuss these yet....?

Hello,
I have played one extensively at a store. I've been trying to find an electric resonator myself.
The sound it's so-so. I did like that it was rather quiet unplugged. The Tele pickup is nice and obviously sounds like a Telecaster. It has its own volume and tone knobs and can cover many styles. But I honestly wasn't too worried about that pickup because I have Telecasters already. The resonator pickup is really terrible. I found it to be harsh, brittle, and almost unusable. It only has a volume knob and the only way it sounded decent was slightly brought up to fill in some acoustic tone the Tele pickup.
They should have just left the electronics out of this design.
Also, I think they designed the guitar for those who don't play slide. The action was way too low for me.
I was dissapointed, being a Fender player, from this one as well as the other Fender resonator models. They lacked that certain "something" for me. I'm saving cash for a National.

Hi liveatsix, thanks for sharing this with us. I didn't had the chance to try it yet, but I tried a few resonators during the last few weeks. Still searching. 8)

Just when you thought you've seen everything...there's a guy in the UK converting Squier Teles to resonators :

I own one of these things. Had it for about 3-4 years.

It sounds like crap plugged in. All high end clack and scrapes. The lipstick p/u sounds ok.

Acoustic tone - very quiet, no bass at all in the sound. Sounds like a banjo, actually.

I put metal fingerpicks on and bash the hell out of this guitar at concerts, it doesn't have the sustain of a nice dobro, and the tone is pretty one dimensional. I'll sell you mine for $200/CAD.

Well, thanks for your review. I see that they were introduced in '03.
