okay i have an acoustic and the action is awful and very difficult to play barre chords. i was wondering if their were any other ways of lowering it other than sanding the the bridge. i've heard that adjusting the truss rod will help but when i try to turn it, it wont turn it's jammed i think.

I usually buy a replacement saddle made of bone and sand it down, that way I still have the original untouched.

That's a good plan; you can always revert to the original if it all goes horribly wrong.

But why not just try lighter gauge strings? Usually a big help with fretting problems!

If the neck is bowed, adjusting the truss rod will probably straighten it out. I would relieve the tension on the strings before attempting to turn the nut on the truss rod since it seems to be stuck. If you can free the nut, then you will be able to straighten the neck. Once the neck is straight, check the frets with a straight edge, then you can adjust the height of the action by buying a new saddle, and sanding it down to fit. If you go too far, you can shim under it to get an exact adjustment. It is trial and error to the max. A good guitar tech can do this for you, or at least tell you if it is worth your time relative to the value of the instrument. You want a playable guitar!

If all else fails, ditch it and get a better guitar with a good action and playabiltiy.
