About 1/2 hour after my shower I take a semi-fine emery board to my fingertips. Smooth them out getting rid of dips and areas where the callous' start to crack and peel up. You don't want to take off too much, just enough to get them smooth.

Personally I do not recommend using super glue on your finger tips.

I have played banjo for 30 plus years I thought I had calluses on my fingertips till I started playing guitar. My suggestions are
1) have a set up done on your guitar. Either do it yourself-not difficult and gets you to really know your instrument

2) go with lighter guage strings-on an electric a .009 (1st string) and on an acoustic a .010 or .009 for a first string- thru to a .046 or .047. The lighter guage strings will really help. As your fingers get use to chords and notes and really develop calluses then you can go back to medium strings if you so desire.

finger caps can be a good idea if your situation doesn't improve...but you should try lighter gauge strings at first....
