One of the best books (and most common) to learn from is Hal Leonard's Guitar Method.
There are three "volumes" and all of which can come with a CD with instructions and "play-alongs".

I have all three (for guitar and bass) and I'll admit that its one of the best ways to learn guitar.

There are other books, but they are not as good and some cost WAY more money.

I purchased Hal Leonard's Guitar Method for about $15 at my local Gutiarworks store about 3 years ago, and still today, I peer into it.
