I have a DG20CE Acoustic electric that I've had almost ten years. I have since bought
higher end more expensive guitars. I decided to upgrade the plastic bridge pins and saddle to Graph Tech Tusq. I am tremendously impressed with improvement in tone.
It sounds so good I find myself playing this guitar a lot all over again. I highly recommend these upgrades. I have bought them on ebay and also from Sam Ash.
Graph Tech's staff is very helpful too. I sanded down the saddle so it was the exact same size as the stock Fender saddle. It is important to get it the right size so the action isn't affected and it is the right tone.

Those kind of upgrades can make such a HUGE improvement on the sound.

When I got my Fender Montara, the electronics were only accessible through the soundhole, which was a real pain in the $@!. Once the electronics went to hell, I took the guitar to my local luthier and he did the works on that thing. He put on a "bone" nut, saddle, and pins. And the new electronics had to be "other" brand to minimize altering the guitar.

But plugged or unplugged that baby now sounds as good as it is comfortable to play.

I don't know why but it impresses me the fact that if you change the bridge you get a different sound!

The way the luthier here explained it to me the bridge can make a HUGE difference.

For example, the pins put the string 'through" the surface of top on your acoustic, resonates more than a string through bridge where the strings are only on the surface of the guitar top.

And the bone parts give a lot more resonance than the plastic parts. My Montara now holds it's own when I'm just strumming with some friends with much deeper bodied acoustics.

I think the bone parts totalled around $15 and since he was ripping the guitar apart to put in a new pre-amp it was the perfect chance.

It was like taking an old car and giving it a new coat of paint, etc.
