Guild would kind of be the next step up.

My wife has a Martin D35 and a Ovation Celebrity (it's much easier for her to play), I have had an Alvarez RD20, now I have a Guild GAD25. My GAD25 Guild has to be the best sounding guitar I have ever played next to my wife's Martin. The GAD25 is SOLID Mahogany top, back & sides with a case for around $500.

There are alot of different guitars out there in your price range that are good. Be sure to get one thats made or voiced for your use which is rock/blues. You might want to find dreadnought with a "woody" tone which mostly would be made of solid cedar top with mahogany sides and back or all mahogany. Choose that mixture of wood with good electronics and you will be pleased. In my experience this i found to be true with any other mixture of woods will produce bright tones more suitable for country/bluegrass styles.

I bought myself one of the Estebans for Christmas. Looks nice but haven't decided if I like the tone. It came with 10 DVD's that I gave to my son. Also came with a 10 watt amp which I also gave to my son so he could practice in his room instead of using my amp in the living room while I'm trying to watch TV or play. Not sure if I would recommend it - guess I could have just bought him a cheap amp at the pawn shop. Got a set of Elixers to replace the original strings so maybe that will improve the tone. If not, the Esteban will be a wall hanger and I'll get another Ovation.

I bought a Fender Sonoran SCE for less than $250. Great sounding guitar with a Strat style neck.

I have a fender cd60 acousstic and love the way it plays and sounds. I paid around 250.00 and like the tone quality as well as some acoustics I have played that cost hundreds of dollars more.

A Blueberry would be nice but can't see spending more for a guitar than my car.

check craigslist, ebay, and local shops....you can often find great guitars for an awsome deal.

most importantly try lots of diffrent brands and models, its not what WE like but what YOU like.

The Fender California Series Sonoran SCE's are absolutely by far the best acoustics ive ever played they also have the electric parts built in. I have a hard time putting mine down. They sound great, and i got mine for $280 brand new from a local shop. They are amazing quality and definately worth the price. Go try one out!! you will love it!

I have the Tim Armstrong Hellcat (345 eur @ thomann.de; $299 @ Guitar Center/Musician's Friend).
It was love at first sight in the shop; now the more I use it, the more I actually love it. The ideal acoustic for me for anything rock/blues.

The Fender CD-60(CE) is the best guitar in the under $300 range I've ever played - simply astounding for the money.
